Chris Brown - Forever
This...seems anti-climatic in a way. I mean, really?!?! Chris Brown at #1 on a personal year-end chart? 3 years ago, this would have seemed absurd! I can honestly say, though, that in 2008, it is not absurd at all! This amazing single would have never seen the light of day had Brown not released the deluxe edition to his platinum album,
Exclusive. This song truly defined summer for me. Once the beginning beat kicks in, you're hooked so that Chris's weak vocals don't even matter anymore (and the auto-tune really helps in this case). The song is cool, makes you wanna dance, and just enjoy life. I realized that after this song, Chris Brown should NEVER go back to what some call 'R&B.' The style that "Forever" possesses is his calling and I am thrilled to see that his next album is taking such a direction. I'll admit that when he first came onto the scene, I didn't think of him as any more than a wannabe Usher. Well, how the tides have turned! This song alone was better than ANYTHING on Usher's ****-tastic album,
Here I Flop. Now, I can truly say that Chris Brown belongs in music. This song really put him over the edge in my opinion, truly the best single of the year! Not even Britney, Kanye, Rihanna, T.I., Leona, Beyonce...NOBODY can touch this. BOW in the presence of greatness!
