Virgin7 Official Single Chart: Rihanna and Ashlee Retire
Madonna's 4 Minutes Keeps It To 4 Weeks To Save The World
American Pop Legend Madonna, spends a fourth week at number one on the Virgin7 Official Singles Chart, and ties with Rihanna's Don't Stop the Music as the longest running number one this year. The song has been powered by more plays this week for the simple fact that Madonna was performing this week at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Maidstone, Kent. The singles points rise up to 439 points.
The Ting Tings Go Platinum Gold Famous
British Band, The Ting Tings, have inched up this week to 15-2. They move up 13 places in the chart, and also beat their last singles chart position of number 16. Great DJ, reached number 16 in March. The singles huge rise is purely due to them performing at Radio 1's Big Weekend also, and their single's download.
Outta The Chart
Ashlee Simpson's Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya) has finally left the chart after spending 22 weeks in the chart. It entered in December 2007 and has now left in May 2008. It is her biggest hit to date, and this year earned itself 535 points and is currently fifth place in the 2008 Point Board.
This Song Is Gonna Be Huge
Australian-duo, The Veronicas, have moved up 17 places in the chart to number 4. This is their first single release to the Singles Chart. The single also made it a second week at number one on the 'Hot Play List', with 54 plays this week. Their single was the highest jump of the week, and looks set to be number one in a few weeks.
Miss Rihanna Big Hits
Barbados born singer Rihanna, has earned herself the right to be one of the biggest artists in the game right now. She has this week earned her third number single in the States, and looks set to make it double in the UK this week. This week her single 'Don't Stop the Music' retires from the chart with 22 weeks and 2x Platinum Certification. The single is currently number one in the 2008 Point Board with 737 Points. Her new single Take a Bow also moves up 11 places to number 5, this week to make her "Miss Rihanna Big Hits".
Touch My Chart Run, I Slap You Bitch!
Mariah Carey's Touch My Body has spent 11 weeks in the top 10. This week the song falls 3 places to number 10, and 3 of the weeks it has spent in the top 10 it was number one. She looks set to have another huge hit on her hands, with Bye, Bye entering the chart at Number 25. It is the second highest new entry.
Jumping High In The Chart
Swedish dance group Scooter, have gave thereselves two highest new entries this year. In March, The Question Is What Is The Question?, entered at Number 31 as the highest new entry. This week, Jumping All Over The World, enters at Number 23. The band look to have a huge hit on their hands.
Beggin' To Retire
Duffy's Mercy this week goes Platinum meaning he will be retiring from the chart. The Welsh girl made one of the jumps of the year moving 36-7 in February, 29 places. The single reached number 2. It currently has 437 Points.
Seven Debuts
This week sees seven new entries in the chart. Scooter being the highest and Mariah Carey the second highest, which I've already mentioned. Kat DeLuna's Run the Show, enters at Number 40. This is her second single to enter the chart since June's Whine Up. Fall Out Boy and John Mayer's collabo, Beat It, enters the chart at number 41, already earning itself 10 points. Following behind is Canadian rapper, Kardinal Offishal's Dangerous. The single featuring Akon, is a huge played song for me this week and I can tell will be huge. OneRepublic enters at number 45 behing Kardinal, and Alicia Keys enters at 46 behind OneRepublic.

Virgin7 Official Single Chart: Melanie C MASSIVE DEBUT
Madonna Longest Number One Of The Year So Far
Madonna's 4 Minutes becomes the longest number one of the year so far. The last longest number one of the year was held by Rihanna with Don't Stop the Music. 4 Minutes spends its fifth week at the top, the longest since last August's Stronger by Kanye West. The single is currently 11th on the 2008 Point Board.
Melanie C Cover Highest Debut of Year
Melanie C's cover of Britney's Gimme More debuts this week at number three. The original spent 35 weeks on the chart altogether, and Mel C's version now has the biggest debut out of the two, and of the year altogether. It could also go onto become Mel's biggest hits. It premiered on Youtube, and was added as a thread on ATRL. Basically I think it is just a poke at making fun of Brits, but I think it is awesome.
Flo Rida Re-Enters and Retires
Flo Rida has re-entered and retired on this weeks chart. Low retired from the chart this week, with Platinum status and spent 19 weeks altogether. Also his second single 'Elevator' featuring Timbaland this week re-entered the chart, re-entering at number 32. It had already peaked at number 27 in March.
New Chart Rules
I have some news on my chart. All week I have been getting really uptight about whether to retire songs as soon as they hit 15 weeks or leave them until they fell off the chart on their own, and retire. I have just decided to keep them on until they fall off the chart, because then on my point board, the songs that have the most weeks won't have as much points as they deserve. So I'm leaving it the way it is (FOR NOW). But also, as soon as song retires it will be given an extra 50 points to it's advantage. So hopefully enough songs get 50 points for big points in the year end chart.
Only Three Debuts
As I've spoken about, Melanie C's Gimme More, was one of the debuts this week, debuting at number three. But also Maroon 5 featuring Rihanna and Gnarls Barkley enter the chart. Maroon 5's If I Never See You Again debuted at number 36 this week. This comes down to many spins on iTunes. It went to number 5 on my airplay chart, behind The Veronicas, The Ting Tings, Danity Kane and Girlicous. And Gnarls Barkley debuts this week with the second single from The Odd Couple, Going On. The first single, Run, never entered the chart, but this song has a really good vibe to it, sounds a lot like 'Smiley Faces'. Hopefully this jumps high in the charts in the upcoming weeks.
McCartney's First Top 10
Jesse McCartney's Leavin' is the first single by the man to enter the Virgin7 Official Singles Chart. His last singles haven't reached the top 40. Leavin' leaves his Disney Pop route and moves onto a more mature R&B feel.
