#9 will be up soon. I swear.
but for now, here are the artists I think you should look out for in 2008. The first two are separated between Pop and Rock and I really enjoy them. But the final one in hip-hop and is the one I feel the absolute most strongly about. This is one guy I know for a fact is going to break out big in 2008 while remaining to be something completely fresh and vital in the genre of hip-hop.
Pop/Soul
Adele
I just heard of this girl in the beginning of December, but she's very talented. I got a hold of this sort-of 4 song EP of her's and just really loved it. Songs like "Hometown Glory" and "Chasing Pavements" are just great songs that should hopefully break out in North America. Apparently Mark Ronson is a big fan of her's, so that's usually a good sign. Her debut album 19 will be coming out January 28th in the UK, and I look forward to hearing it.

Rock
Vampire Weekend
They are well on their way to breaking out to the mainstream, but in case you haven't heard of them yet you really need to. Their 3 song EP is just really amazing, original stuff. They describe their syle as Upper West Side Soweto. Probably my favorite song on the EP "A-Punk" reminds me a lot of the great Operation Ivy with a bit of Mark Mothersbaugh's score of Rushmore thrown in. Their debut album is actually whoa, out the same day as Adele's! how ****in' crazy is that? Two great debut albums from promising artists out the same day. how wild is that.

Jay Electronica

Maybe that’s the best way to describe him, different. A year ago there weren’t many people who would recognize the name Jay Electronica, but in the last 12 months, the mysterious New Orleans native has created a surprising, internet-based buzz, while still remaining mostly an enigma. From the 20 + tracks of his that infiltrated the net there are collaborations with Guilty Simpson and Mr. Porter, beats by the underrated Nottz as well as the legendary J Dilla (RIP). Yet even with such an impressive roster of collaborators, Jay shines undauntedly…”

okay, what i'm going to say is no ******** or overselling anything: When his career is over and done with, Jay Electronica will be looked at as one of the greatest rappers ever.
so, hmmm. where to begin?
-Just Blaze heard him, mind was blown.

Can you describe the upcoming music from Jay?
Just Blaze: earth-shattering.

-Erykah Badu specifically started a record label, Control FreaQ, because of Jay Electronica
Quote:
Erykah Badu: He’s awake and he stays awake. What makes him the next thing is that he is progressive; he studies like he is in medical school. He studies music, period. He studies sonics and styles. The sound of music is pretty much the same all across the board when it comes to rap or hip-hop. Whatever it is that is in him that gives him the energy to move like he moves, it’s not the music that impresses me, it’s his mind really. There are millions of his atoms in my music; sometimes I think they are strategically placed there. He reflects himself in everyone and everything around him; he’s like a virus. His minds and his words and his thoughts, sometimes I feel like he’s straight from God.

Like seriously, Jay Electronia right now is kinda at the position Nas was at the beginning of his career before he dropped Illmatic. He has this incredible team of people behind him, and Jay is obviously super-talented so this is going to be some really next-level ****.

before I did this thread I mentioned I would do a thing on an upcoming actor. well, I think i'll save it for when I do my Movies/TV sidelists, but believe me this actor will be huge in 2008. Mark my words. more on that when I do it.
Next thing i'll do is #9, so maybe look at it as a Christmas present from yours truly. because yeah, I went really cheap this year for you guys and decided my gift for you all is one album in my top 40 albums list. in 2008, I swear i'll try to get something better like a Horse.
