Actually, sales in the UK are decreasing as well. 2012 was the highest year for sales, 2013 was lower, and 2014 will probably be even lower.
It's true the #1 sells over 100,000 most weeks, but that's just one song in the whole market each week. There's millions of other songs out there, and the average sales for a #200 are much lower than they were a couple of years ago.
