What kind of REACH?
You queens need to stop comparing sales of two albums released more than a decade apart. Both eras were successful in their own ways and resulted in major changes within the industry.

Britney was the first newcomer in YEARS to sell that ammount of albums and cause that much impact. Almost instantly RCA signed Christina to be her counterpart after watching the success she had, and they marketed her as a sexy lolita exactly like Britney.
Bieber and 1D had their impact, but they were nowhere near BSB, JT / NSYNC, and yet NSYNC and JT both failed to sell the ammount of albums Britney sold.
BSB and Britney are the only true icons of Teen-Pop, while out of those 2 Britney is the only one who is still successful and called a Pop Icon thanks to all that she did for the pop music and her several iconic music videos.

First off, thanks for pointing out the Teen word, Yes they are icons of Teen Pop, but only teen pop, not pop, a pop icon appeals to anyone.
so being the first newbie to have a chart success is an impact ?
List me those "female solo acts came as lolitas attempting to do pop music" because all I can think of are Xtina & Britney in the 00s, and they re doing the same stuff in the 00s at the same time.
.
Mariah, Celine, Alanis etc.. those were already successful female artists before Britney ! and they re successful even outside the teen world and which act did Britney (in the 00s) pave the way for ?
if you look at many greatest albums ever lists, you won t find BOMT or OIDIA, you only find albums like Supernatural, Jagged Little Pill from the 00s (awarded by the grammys) etc
ofc 1D & J Bieber are ! we all agree that music sales are 75% down since 2000, not because No Strings Attached reached diamond that it means it s superior to My World 2.0, the type of success is almost the same, they are snubbed by the grammys.
Another ultimate proof of how BOMT is just now a "nostalgic" album among her stans but nothing memorable is her catalog sales.
If you follow BB200, you would see that Britney (along with Nsync & BsB) are among the worst catalog sellers, Come Away With Me still sold like 2k per week actually, same case for Mariah Carey, Celine, Whitney Houston...but BOMT or OIDIA are no near found.

Its still an iconic album. It sold more copies than any album by her contemporaries, it even sold more than any NSYNC album and they were one of the biggest groups out there. It spawned a lot of big hits (BOMT, Sometimes, Crazy, Born To Make You Happy).
At the end of the day, BSB and Britney DOMINATED the late 90s and the early 2000s, and most albums by other groups and females were going to have their sound. Yes, its maybe not selling as much right now, but, does it even matter? BOMT the single remains one of the biggest pop songs of all time and the video is still remembered to this day

21, probably the biggest era this century so far.
We'll never know how much it would have sold had it been released in the 90's, but we do know that it sold more albums than the other in a time when albums don't sell anywhere near as much as they used to.
I don't agree with the statement - "If it sold 25 million in 2011, it would have sold 40 million in 2000". However, selling 20 million today is the new 40 million.

Come On Over sold more ...I dont think many tried to re create BsB & Britney after ! Noraj Jones was the major seller and later Usher and they were completly different. I d even say that Britney were more influential during her Blackout era because she was the pioneer of the pop/edm trend ! many followed that actually.
Sure she was VERY successful back then and many pop stars nowadays could only dream of her sales (because of piracy), but putting that aside, she s just a teen idol like BSB & Nsync ! and saying that BOMT is more successful, iconic (whatever the word you use) than 21 is just
I d say 21 is the biggest era from a female artist ever (The Bodyguard didn t spend more weeks at 1 in the US and worlwide it was not that dominant)

I didnt say BOMT is more iconic nor more successful than 21 cause it isnt, i voted for 21. Im only arguing because people is saying it has no impact when in reality it had.
And lets see the best selling albums from 1995 to 2002 by females:
Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill (+32M copies) - 1995
Mariah Carey - Daydream (+20M copies) - 1995
Celine Dion - Falling Into You (+28M copies) - 1996
Shania Twain - Come On Over (+34M copies) - 1997
Celine Dion - Lets Talk About Love (+20M copies) - 1997
Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time (+22M copies) - 1999
Celine Dion - All The Way... A Decade Of Song (+20M copies) - 1999
Britney Spears - Oops!... I Did It Again (+20M copies) - 2000
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me (+24M copies) - 2002
Avril Lavigne - Let Go (+16M copies) - 2002
Britney had the best selling album by a female in the middle of all this legends so it couldnt have been that much of a non-event
Plus, it doesnt have 2001 nor 1998 because the ranking im checking a ranking of the 100 best sellers of all time: ( http://mediatraffic.de/alltime-album-chart.htm ) but it doesnt have any album from 2001 and any album by a female in 1998. And since Norah and Avril no female (nor male nor group nor band) has been able to enter till Adele.

I stan for Britney but the correct answer is 21. It not only peaked at #1 for several weeks, it also produced three #1 singles, sold more, had more acclaim, and won more grammys. Both eras were MASSIVE though plus BOMT's success is pretty impressive for a 17 year old's debut album. Britney and Adele fangirl over each other so there isn't any rivalry between the two either.

Besides talent, marketing with a damn good management. Most teen stars couldn't break into a adult career, I think of Tiffany, Debby Gibson etc. but she could because they invested in her and also later after the break down they invested in her with producer who don't come cheap.
And to be honest this man who did cast Xtina, Britney Justin and Ryan Gosling was a genius.

Whattt.....The Fame is so dated, no one uses that mess anymore, actually the same applies to BOMT too.

Okay I get your point !
it s because of piracy once again,
I d say that 21 is a bigger era (the biggest from a female artist) but Adele is not a bigger star compared to Britney back then, people missunderstand the 2 points (the bigger artist/album etc). Actually even Katy Perry is a bigger star then Adele, I mean the star power, media presence, etc...
for example, many said that Teenage Dream was as successful as Born This Way, however Lady gaga (during BTW) was still the biggest popstar.
Adele is not the one that makes you HARDLY stan, to make you follow her life and every move she makes etc...people agree she s one of the most talented artists though... like Norah Jones, she s just a different type of artist

Star power is not needed though, and star power is only temporary, Adele's album is going to age better than Gaga's meat dress or Britney's shaved head.
