Yeah. It makes sense this is happening since artists and labels are making money off of these streams/views. Services that grow bigger every day. The news of YouTube planning to have paid-subscription content in near future begs the question of how will record labels make use of that function.
But even if this is where the market of music consumption is heading, I just wish they would've created a separate certification for this, as many others have expressed.

I think that's a much more sound argument than "this is terrible! death of music!" I think that might be more appropriate as well, but I still believe that we shouldn't feel so unwilling to adopt new ways of measuring song success. To me it's kind of similar to the ways that TV stations are incorporating streaming/DVR into total views since that's a technologically new way that people are consuming shows. In the extreme sense, if streaming really is the future and people pay for services rather than actual music, then these certifications would become meaningless.
