Top Albums: Honorable Mentions
Honorable Mentions
| Ellie Goulding / Halcyon
I'm not a huge fan of Ellie, but this album definitely makes her stand out. I get the vibes of light-colored soap and oceans when I think of this album. It's not exactly my speed, but many songs I enjoyed a lot on this album, and I know many other people did, too. Overall, it was a great piece of art. A great follow-up to her debut.
Plays total: 131
Released: 2012
Stand-outs: Atlantis, Anything Could Happen, I Know You Care, Dead In The Water |
| Regina Spektor / What We Saw From The Cheap Seats
Whether it was just me not really listening to this kind of music anymore or this album not really being up-to-par with her previous albums, I couldn't get into this album a whole lot. However, I did enjoy it a lot over the summer and many tracks got regular plays for me. It's a good work, and I enjoyed it, but not as much as I enjoyed many other albums in my top 25.
Plays total: 101
Released: 2012
Stand-outs: Small Town Moon, How, Patron Saint, Oh Marcello |
| B.o.B / Strange Clouds
I've never been a huge B.o.B fan, but I was able to form many new connections with his music this era. I was exposed to this record blasting through the speakers at my work while we were closing, my co-workers loved it. I enjoyed a few tracks so I downloaded it myself and it has become quite the nostalgic set of tracks for me this year, though hasn't quite pushed itself into the top 25.
Plays total: 110
Released: 2012
Stand-outs: Both Of Us, Out Of My Mind, Ray Bands, Just A Sign |
| Alanis Morissette / Havoc and Bright Lights
I haven't checked for Alanis for nearly a decade, but this album was a pretty pleasant listen. Not only did she have a very nice image for this era, the tracks are also very fitting with the times and well-produced. I especially enjoyed some of the bonus tracks on the album, but it was a pretty flowing listen as a whole. Not my favorite from this year, but deserved mention.
Plays total: 91
Released: 2012
Stand-outs: Magical Child, Will You Be My Girlfriend?, Receive |
| Brandy / Two Eleven
I have never heard any song by Brandy but the ones on this album. My attention was captured when I saw she collaborated with Bangladesh and Switch (but the Bangladesh ones didn't even turn out to be my favorites!) It was a very pleasant listen for me, but as a whole, I liked specific tracks more than the entire album. Still very impressive first impression of Brandy for me!
Plays total: 138
Released: 2012
Stand-outs: Slower, Wish Your Love Away, Do You Know What You Have |
| Carly Rae Jepsen / Kiss
After Call Me Maybe, which I didn't enjoy at all, I figured it'd only be fair to give her album a listen, and I was actually impressed. Though it's a little too bubblegum for me at times, I find many tracks very well-written and showcase Carly very well as an artist. I wish her success with some of these potential smash hits, and hope her reputation isn't tarnished by CMM.
Plays total: 175
Released: 2012
Stand-outs: Tonight I'm Getting Over You, Turn Me Up, More Than A Memory |
| Rihanna / Unapologetic
I was extremely disappointed by this album, because I adored Talk That Talk (which makes an entry in my top 25). I don't dig the whole image she went for here, and many of the songs are, in my opinion, recyclable urban trash. However, there are many songs I do really appreciate from the album, and would be lying if I didn't say this deserves an honorable mention in my 2012.
Plays total: 169
Released: 2012
Stand-outs: Diamonds, Get It Over With, Jump, What Now, No Love Allowed |
| Brandi Carlile / Bear Creek
Probably the most deserving of an honorable mention, Bear Creek was an album I really enjoyed this year. There are many tracks I deeply enjoyed and have great memories with! I haven't ever taken the time to listen to her until this album, but I'm glad I did. The woodsy/folk theme is right up my alley - a perfect addition to my listens this year. The album as a whole I didn't totally enjoy, but overall I did.
Plays total: 130
Released: 2012
Stand-outs: Hard Way Home, A Promise To Keep, Heart's Content |
There are many Honorable Mentions here I felt they all deserved a spot in my countdown, though!
Tomorrow, I will reveal albums #25-#20. I will comment back for anyone that comments here

Halcyon is pretty good.
With Unapologetic, however, i'm happy she didn't go for another TTT type of album and actually went for something different.

I'm glad she didn't re-do TTT as well, but I don't know if I like the image that goes along with Unapologetic.
A lot of it has to do with her ugly hair and Lana-esque boring Diamonds video.

Two Eleven and Halycon
I glad someone else also thinks "What We Saw From Cheap Seats" wasn't as good as her previous work, because I felt the exact same thing as you did
