How is Beyonce the most influential artist nowadays if the biggest popstar of the moment has been more influenced by Britney than by Beyonce? I mean Gaga talked about Beyonce & bla bla bla but where is the influence in her? Her music sounds more Britney-like than Beyonce-like. Most of the pop girls sound more like Britney.
But what I would like to know is why are the Britney Stans having to use OLD receipts from the past?
That's the Shade and the fact their shading their own artist is a KI yet sad.
BoA is just a more established name. 2NE1 is newer, but still site Beyonce as an influence. Thus, driving the fact home that Britney is pastime and hasn't done much since 2004 despite being the same age.
The fact that people still listen to Britney and are influenced by her when she doesn't even lift a finger shows her power.
Britney Spears is pop music's stealth avant-gardist. She's an adventuress. When she was entering her darkest period in terms of her personal life, while much of the world was writing her off as a joke, she was also releasing the most innovative music, going for distorto-rama robot-disco propulsion and alienated synth-gloom ambience. It’s funny how people underrate Brit’s impact on the way music sounds now, just because her personality gets in the way, but if you listen to an hour of pop radio today, you’ll hear an hour of people trying to top Blackout, the most influential pop album of the past five years.

Just when 2011 seemed like it would birth more of the same old, watered-down dance-pop, Britney Spears, brings current trends to their knees. In her new single, “Hold It Against Me,” Spears has brought the underground dubstep genre into the mainstream. While it is indeed too early to tell what may happen next, I predict that dubstep will increasingly be incorporated into new pop hits. Britney’s new song is the first true mainstream dubstep track. “Hold It Against Me” would probably be classified as pop-dubstep and I wouldn’t be surprised if that term becomes ubiquitous. It also may be wishful thinking to believe that one song can change the sound of pop music, but it’s been done before by Britney herself. More than any other single artist, Spears was the driving force behind the return of teen pop in the late '90s. “Toxic” is still widely credited for starting the dance-pop craze in the 2000s (although nothing truly captured the exact sound of that monster tune.) Britney has been known to go against the grain and be experimental — Blackout for instance. It introduced an influx of electro pop into the modern market, providing the blueprint for various smash hits. Despite some negative popular opinion surrounding her, credit must be given where it is due. Britney could very well start the pop-dubstep genre. Dubstep is the next logical step for pop’s transformation. It may become the sound of 2011 and beyond.
I still dont get why Britney is even credited for this ....
She didn't write or produce any of those songs....they should thank her producer and writer, tbh.
How could I forget? Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton, Nelly Furtado, Pink, Sia, Kate Nash...
Don't forget out BoA was and still is referred to as the "Asian Britney". When your name influences spinoffs and titles given to artists across the globe, there must be some huge impact and influence behind your career.
Why does everyone pull the "local" card? Beyonce's music has always been more R&B/urban influenced, so I would expect girls like Britney and GaGa to sell more.

It's so sad when the Beyhive is threatened by another woman's legacy. Isn't this what the topic is about: how much impact a person's whole legacy has on pop culture. You can type your little fingers away as fast as you can about how Britney 'doesn't have it' anymore. When people talk about Michael Jackson's impact on music, they just don't bring up 'Invincible'. They bring up his whole legacy. And that is what you should do when bringing up Britney. Her whole career has experienced monumental successes that most pop stars would dream of. K?
it won't change the fact that Britney got HER vanguard award.
Only cuz Beyonce's not done yet.
But in the meantime, where's Britney's Legend Award?
Like I said, I'm over it. I just had to make sure that if no one would do, I'd rock the crumbling boat you Brit stans have been so complacent with for a decade now. We all know the truth.
When I look at this thread, I feel like I'm reading UAE and his delusional posts. They are both influential whether you want to admit it or not. I still think Britney is more influential, and I'm not going to even debate about it.

ROLLING STONE: How has your involvement in the record-making process changed over the years? You hear traces of some real cutting-edge dance music on the album – for instance, the dubstep break on “Hold It Against Me." How do you find new sounds?
BRITNEY:I have always been heavily involved in every album I have ever made. I'm very stubborn when it comes to recording and will only record songs I love. I have to feel connected before I record and the song has to spark something inside me. Very few songs do that. I guess it's a good process because I love all of my music. I know there are a lot of artists that hate songs they recorded. I don’t feel that way. I wanted to make a fresh-sounding album for the clubs or something that you play in your car when you're going out at night that gets you excited but I wanted it to sound different from everything else out right now. I also wanted to experiment with all the different types of music I love which is why you hear a mixture of pop, hip-hop and dance throughout the album. I also really wanted to play with my voice and change up my sound here and there which was really fun. I listen to a lot of different music from all over the world and I guess I just gravitate towards what sounds fresh and what makes me want to move. I really didn’t want to record anything on this album that could be mistaken for anyone else out there. I think “Hold It Against Me” sounds completely different from anything else and I think when my fans hear the rest of Femme Fatale they'll see how fresh every song is.

POPJUSTICE: Do you lead or follow? How do you define success now? For example, with the dubstep breakdown in ‘Hold It Against Me,’ it was something that a global pop performer hadn’t yet done, and it felt like an instance of you pushing things a bit... but I wasn’t sure if that was you who were doing that pushing.
BRITNEY: I definitely lead. I love to strive to do things differently. I feel my world is different, even from other people who lead. I define success now just by feeling accomplished in what I’ve done, you know? In the art that we’ve done. That’s part of why I love what I do - being in this industry because you can, you know, do so many different things and that makes you who you are. At this point in my career, I am making the music that I enjoy and the music I know my fans will love. 'Hold It Against Me?' I had a definite idea in my head for the sound and direction and I think we nailed it. As time goes by, I tend to want to outdo myself, which, I guess, is a good thing.
