There's no evidence to prove that she would be a flop, or even prove that she would be sucessful. Artists flop, make comebacks, or they start off big, and flop later on down the road all the time. No one knows. Unless we can look into a different dimension, it's all up in the air. which is all i'm saying

No.
Her success today would be identical to Ciara, Keri Hilson, Kelly Rowland, etc. She would not be a "legend" or anything from her hits.

I agree. She wasn't as successful as we remembered her to be.

Just like no one could have predicted Britney's meltdown or Beyonce's "Single Ladies" should they have died at around the same time, I don't think it's fair or even logical to try and predict whether or not she would have been a flop.
Let's just respect her legacy and acknowledge that she was here and she did her thang in whatever (little) time span she had.

My take on Aaliyah:
Aaliyah kept getting bigger with each album, as well as more critical respect. I do believe Aaliyah would have, without a doubt, transitioned into something more pop. Anyone remember how Nelly, Justin, and Timbaland pretty much owned 2006 (I think that's the year)? Well Aaliyah would have likely replaced Nelly. TIm and Aaliyah were like siblings so it is more than likely he would have produced some hit tracks for her.
The realty is that Aaliyah may have been a flop in the grander scheme of things, but when you think about it - everything was there for her to get bigger (had she lived). People say she would be bigger than Beyonce, but I disagree. I do think Aaliyah would be more along the lines of Rihanna, but with more talent + respect (no shade..but Aaliyah danced and sang). Aaliyah had already proved to be a risk taker with her music, and she wanted to take even more! I highly doubt she would have been another Keri or Ciara, on the account of they stay in the RnB field...and it is obvious Aaliyah would have gone way beyond that.
I'm not saying Aaliyah would have been the world's biggest star, but she clearly was not heading towards flopville. It's a shame we'll never get to know.

and how do you know?
How are you so sure?
Did you predict that Rihanna would slay like she does now when MOTS barely scanned Gold?
Did you predict that Britney was going to have a breakdown?

This thread is so horrible! She helped revolutionize R&B/Pop. R&B was huge during the 00's and so would have her career. Long live Princess "Baby Girl" Aaliyah!

Yes, she would have flopped.
As someone who grew up in the 90s, Aaliyah was the lesser of the R&B teen queen trio - Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah. She was the lesser then, and she would have been the lesser in the 00s. Her music didn't have crossover appeal, hence why she only managed to notch 3 or 4 top ten hits on the Hot 100, while her peers had twice that amount in the 90s with the same amount of albums released. Consequently, she wouldn't have survived the rise of Beyonce or Alicia Keys. Comparing Aaliyah to either of them is stupid. She's not as talented as Beyonce or Alicia, a good of a singer as Beyonce, or instrumentalist as Alicia. She didn't even write her own material. She was a decent dancer, which I find odd being that she has named Janet as her biggest influence.
Her sales were always dismal. Her highest certification in 2x platinum, while her peers have gone 3 and 4 times platinum. And lest we not forget it took her debut 7 years to go 2x platinum, and it wasn't certified 2x platinum until AFTER she died. And in even in the wake of her death, she only managed to sell about 4 million albums. Odd how an untimely death didn't spark a dramatic sales hike, and even still she didn't manage to outsell Brandy's 8 million+ albums sold in the US per Soundscan.
That being said, in this day and age, she would have only been relevant on the R&B charts, which isn't bad. She wouldn't have been popular comparably with the big acts - Beyonce, Katy, Rihanna, Gaga, Xtina, Britney, etc. The type of music she put out never reached the masses for the aforementioned reasons. With her sales already wavering around platinum and double platinum in the 90s, she definitely would have been struggling in the 00s with the rise of piracy and the digital market.

I love her music but she wasn't that great. Her vocals were weak and stage presence was equivalent to current day RIhanna.

Are u serious? Rihanna? Rihanna? omg wtf?
She wasn't a power belter but her vocals were not weak @ all.
