I have a love/ hate relationship with the idea of that.

I know she's gonna perfect this album but at the same time I dont wanna wait til March or April to get it.

Me too. However, in her case it's a smart idea to see how her contemporaries match up against each other. So, in case they fail she has more time to perfect it and make sure Interscope does it differently with her.

Exactly. This was a great interview, we pretty much know where she stands musically, as far as when she wants to start the project. It's also great to know, she's working with Casey! I have a feeling they could make magic together!

Haley Reinhart wasn't always a growler.

But this year on "American Idol," the 20-year-old Chicagoan used her seductive growl to escape near-elimination in the early rounds and finish strongly in third place in the competition. Thing is, her signature move was nothing she ever planned on doing.

"It's funny, I never really did that at all before I got onto 'Idol,' " says Reinhart, on the phone last week from a tour stop in Charlotte, N.C. "And I remember during 'God Bless the Child' that sound just came out of me, and there was no turning back."

Nor should there have been. Reinhart has already parlayed her "American Idol" fame into a deal with Interscope Records; she's working on her debut album but isn't "rushing it." She's on the road with the "American Idols Live!" tour, which drops by Joe Louis Arena on Sunday.

Reinhart grew up singing and was born to musician parents. Her goal on "Idol" was to land a record deal, and even when she faced elimination in the early rounds — she landed in the bottom three the first two weeks of the live shows — she never lost her focus.

"I always had a very positive energy," says Reinhart, who performed songs by Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and Adele during her "Idol" run. "I was never detrimentally scared I was going to go home."

As the weeks went on, Reinhart came into her own and gave several head-turning performances, including a winning take on Lady Gaga's "You and I." She had a goal of reaching the top three, but when she got there she realized she wanted to push it a little further.

"Once you're on that stage and you're next to the other two, all of you have that instinct to want (to go to the finals)," she says. "But at the same time, I got what I wanted."

Artists she admires include Corinne Bailey Rae and Janelle Monae, and she hopes to emulate their sounds as she goes forward in her own career. But she doesn't plan on relying on her old moves too heavily along the way.

"I don't want to be growling every two seconds," Reinhart says. "I probably wouldn't last too long if I did that."
