Well...a lot of rappers can stand on their own feet. Sure Eminem had a Rihanna feature, but the album has sold far more than Rihanna's albums (not shading, I am a Rih fan). There is also Lil Wayne, who hasn't done a collaboration with a female artist either...unless you count knockout. I don't think the problem is the fact that they are doing collaborations with female musicians. I do however believe that a lot of songs that female artists are featured in with rappers lately have been slower, but that's not a bad thing either.
It's not just the rappers, there are female pop singers going to rappers as well lately and once again, it's not a bad thing. KP collaborated with Snoop Dogg on Cali Girls, Rihanna and Eminem on LTWYL PT. II, J. Lo with Pitbull in her new song, Keri Hilson collaborated with Rick Ross, Ke$ha did a remix with Andre 3000, and Britney is collaborating with Gucci Mane on a remix. There are just as many examples of female musicians looking/receiving for help from rappers as there are rappers collaborating with females. To argue that they can't stand on their own, however, it a bit much.
I didn't say they couldn't stand on their own feet, I said they should, and you correctly stated some clear examples in your post. What I mean is that female features are getting more common day by day. I feel like they know the track will be a hit, so they decide to produce a song with the feature, instead of taking a risk and do a solo song.

Actually they arent as common now as they were say 6 years ago. They are just as common now as they were then because it was basically the same female artists being featured on the rap tracks. In the early part of the millennium it was Ashanti & JLO's lane to be featured on rappers songs and flash forward a couple years it was Beyonce, Rihanna and Ciara as the hook singers on the rap tracks. Its very rare that female pop stars were featured like a katy Perry or a Lady Gaga type of artist because features mainly existed in the urban world. Its not that the rappers cant have a hit song by themselves its just more commercial having a female on the hook to give it an oomph. Their voices are much more softer so its understood. Bruno Mars seem to have been doing a good job for male vocalist after having 2 huge Rap/sung collabos of last year.
I mean why do you think the Grammys made a new category for Rap/Sung Collabos then.
well right now, if you put out a completely unfriendly radio single then its destined to flop, so they gotta somehow make it a little generic
but its still 100xx better than the rest of the generic trash on radio
ya i agree. i'm just really sick of the Alex Da K!d formula. It baffles me that his style is what Dre is using for Detox singles and Eminem used for Recovery. I do enjoy the songs but it's like c'mon...It's Dre! lol, mega-producer , he's better than relying on what everyone else is relying on lately..
I don't know lol that's just my opinion, like I said I like the songs, it's just becoming to formulaic for my tastes. You're right though, a lot of artists need it to make hits, but some need to just **** the system and get a little grimy lol
