I'll have sex when and if I meet the right person. And ok. But you are all hypocrites too.
You have no valid evidence to back up your nothing either.
How about we say you all believe nothing. And I believe in something. But like I said, I've grown a lot spiritually to believe there is something. My mind can't comprehend nothing. Haha.

I'm just trying to comprehend your guys rationalizing. We live a life. Fall in love. Start a family. Make friends. Unbreakable bonds that not even death can separate. The unconditional love that your heart goes through when you meet someone. And the sacrifices we make for our children. The loved ones we see perish and leave this world behind and we only make memories. The prayers we make when we're lost and confused. The hope when mankind is gone. The cure for illness when we're bed ridden. The act of waiting for peace for future generations. The generosity of giving to others in need. The difference of making our world a better place. The heartache of our soul when we lose something or someone we love and fought for.
Then you die. Nothing.
I can't, nor will I believe in such nonsense. Life can't be like that.

This. The concepts of the afterlife and eternal oblivion are just that, concepts. They are EQUALLY valid from a philosophical standpoint. They are not subject to proof or disproof and fall outside the purview of scientific investigation so people should try to avoid passing their own philosophical views/theories/beliefs as facts.

I one time read a really mind-awakening article about life and death and purpose and how it makes human beings selfish. Think about the absolutely HUGE universe we exist in. We are small being on a relatively small planet. The idea that we are meant for a greater purpose in a way is selfish.
Purpose and meaning are man-made concepts we assign ourselves. They are not natural concepts that actually exist. The larger universe doesn't care if you get a job, if you go to school, if you get married, or if you die. We give meaning to those things but in reality, they don't matter in a larger scope.
I have no idea what happens after death so I don't stress about it. I live my life to the fullest and when the time comes for me to go, I will go as I am destined to.

But think about the fact that you once didn't exist at all until you were born. There was blackness and emptiness then so it absolutely can be possible that there is more blackness and emptiness waiting after death.
You wouldn't be conscious to feel that emptiness if it existed so why bother stressing out over it?

If there is nothing after death, then why go to school? Why have family? Why have friends? Why have a career? Why have children? I mean, our lives are purpose less.
I'm not saying we must believe in Heaven, but you can't deny our lives put on this Earth can't be for nothing. We have a conscious. We have free will. We have the choice to either live a great life or choose to sin.
For people who don't believe in anything after life, I pity them. They must not have a great life to think that. Life is way to beautiful to believe we all are meaningless. I want to believe I'll see my grandparents again someday. Otherwise why did I attend all their funerals?

Life is pretty meaningless, that's just the way it is. The only meaning life has is the one you make for yourself .
Yes, pretty much everything you do in life is for nothing because it will all be forgotten about at some point. Seems a bit pointless, I know, but that's why you're best enjoying your life while you can.
And yes I know death is sad and I know people would like to see their lost loved ones again but just because they want it doesn't mean it's going to happen.

JW: It has been said that evil is atheism’s most potent weapon against the Christian faith. And it is! After all, the very existence of evil begs the question [sic], “If God is all good and God is all powerful, why does He allow evil to exist?” The answer, at its core, is remarkably simple: free will. God allows evil to exist because of free will. From the Christian standpoint, God tolerates evil in this world on a temporary basis so that one day those who choose to love Him freely will dwell with Him in heaven free from the influence of evil, but with their free will intact! In other words, God’s intention concerning evil is to one day destroy it.
PR: Well, how convenient. “One day, I will get rid of all the evil in the world, but until then you just have to deal with all the wars and holocausts, tsunamis, poverty, starvation, and AIDS. Have a nice life.” Next he will be lecturing us on moral absolutes.
JW: Well, why not? Professor Radisson, who’s clearly an atheist, doesn’t believe in moral absolutes. But his course syllabus says he plans to give us an exam during finals week. Now, I am betting that if I managed to get an A on the exam by cheating, he will suddenly start sounding like a Christian, insisting it is wrong to cheat, that I should have known that. And yet, what basis does he have? If my actions are calculated to help me succeed, then why shouldn’t I perform them? For Christians, the fixed point of morality, what constitutes right and wrong, is a straight line that leads directly back to God.
PR: So you are saying that we need a god to be moral? That a moral atheist is an impossibility?
JW: No, but with no God there is no real reason to be moral; there is not even a standard of what moral behavior is. For Christians, lying, cheating, stealing, and my example, stealing a grade I didn’t earn, are forbidden as a form of theft. But if God does not exist, as Dostoyevsky famously pointed out, “If God does not exist, then everything is permissible.” And not only permissible, but pointless. If Professor Radisson is right, then all of this—all of our struggle, all of our debate, whatever we decide here—is meaningless. I mean, our lives, our deaths are of no more consequence than that of a goldfish.
PR: Come on, this is ridiculous. So after all of your talk, you are saying that it all comes down to a choice—believe or don’t believe.
JW: That’s right. That’s all there is. That’s all there’s ever been. The only difference between your position and my position is that you take away their choice. You demand that they choose the box marked “I don’t believe.”
PR: Yes, because I want to free them. Because religion is like a . . . it’s like a mind virus that parents have passed on down to their children. And Christianity is the worst virus of all. It slowly creeps into our lives when we’re weak or sick or helpless.
JW: So religion is like a disease?
PR: Yes, yes. It infects everything. It’s the enemy of reason.
JW: Reason? Professor, you left reason a long time ago. What you are teaching here isn’t philosophy; it’s not even atheism anymore. What you’re teaching is anti-theism. It’s not enough that you don’t believe, you need all of us to not believe with you.
PR: Why don’t you admit the truth? You just want to ensnare them into your primitive superstition.
JW: What I want is for them to make their own choice. That’s what God wants.
PR: You have no idea how much I am going to enjoy failing you.
JW: Who are you really looking to fail, Professor: me or God?
JW: Do you hate God?
PR: That’s not even a question.
JW: Okay, why do you hate God?
PR: This is ridiculous.
JW: Why do you hate God?! Answer the question! You’ve seen the science and the arguments. Science supports His existence. You know the truth! So why do you hate Him?! Why?! It’s a very simple question, Professor. Why do you hate God?!
PR: Because He took everything away from me! Yes, I hate God! All I have for Him is hate!
JW: How can you hate someone if they don’t exist?
PR: You’ve proven nothing.
JW: Maybe not, but they get to choose. Is God dead?

You're thinking far too highly of humans, we're just biological creatures like everything else on the planet. Yes we might have more developed brains but at the end of the day we are all born, we live and then we die. That's it.
Also not everyone's goal in life is to get married, settle down, have kids etc. Not everyone wants that sort of life. It's not a universal aspiration.
Religion was created as a tool to manipulate and control the masses (and still is to this day) but it is also used to comfort people who are scared of death. They use it as a sort of safety blanket the way a child would. It's kind of like a crutch for people who can't face the prospect of not existing anymore. But just because you want their to be an afterlife or want to see your loved ones again doesn't mean it's going to happen, that may be sad but it's just the way it is.
The point is to live your life the way you want, make the best of it, be as happy as you can be and then when it's your time to go hopefully you'll have had a good life with minimal regrets.

"The most important part of your life was the time that you spent with these people. That’s why all of you are here ("here" being what you believe it to be.) Nobody does it alone. You needed all of them and they needed you." For what? "To remember and let go." Why do we leave? "Not leaving, no. Moving on."
In essence, the affects we have on this world, including life and death, are a journey to meet on the otherside, and still, once we die, our existence still remains in the people we meet, the relationships, the legacy, the inventions, the contributions to laws, the economy, society, our children, etc.
Whether you believe in heaven, hell, recarnation or nothingness, we are all here for a purpose and each of us can choose what that is..

But what's the point of making the most out of your life and being happy if you just simply die.
You guys are counteracting yourself without realizing it. If you make the most out of your life, you create memories. Memories that last forever. But according to your argument, those memories don't exist when you die. So what's the point then? Like that quote I posted, our deaths aren't any more significant than a goldfish. Goldfish don't have memories, their just dumb.
If you all want to compare your life to a goldfish, go for it, but I believe God gave us free will and a conscious for the sole purpose of choosing. I'll definitely see my loved ones again someday. When my grandma died 6 years ago, we all mourned. Then my grandpa died a month ago and we all knew they were finally back together again, over looking us.
I don't know how you can live a life being so pessimistic. My grandparents were together their entire lives and it wasn't just meaningless. I firmly stand strong in the idea their together again at peace free from suffering. Because that's the meaning of life.

I respect what you believe, but to write every one else off because they are going by science and logic is very ignorant of yourself .
There isn't evidence to prove there is life after death but then there isn't evidence to prove there isn't... We won't know until our time comes.
I think people in here are doing a bit much on what you believe in, but you are coming across really ignorant and it's a tad annoying..
P.S. sorry for your loss.

Nothing. Once your conscious mind stops working, your reality will completely disappear and you will not be able to feel or acknowledge yourself or your surroundings.

Nobody is contradicting themselves... Why does something have to be forever to have meaning? I think the beauty of life is that it's fragile and temporary. It's so unlikely that you or I or anybody is even alive today. Why does it make love between two humans less beautiful because after they die they don't remember it anymore? They remember it up until the point that they die, and then they don't feel anything. No happiness, no sadness, no pain, it's all over. Just like before they were born. And their memory will live on through those who knew them, until those people die. And then they will live on in the memories of those that outlive them until they die. Everybody dies eventually. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't experience as much happiness as they can while they are alive.
Sure you can look at the fact that we all die as life being futile and it not being worth ever falling in love or doing anything, but you're going to die whether you fall in love and experience life to he fullest or not. So why not do all those wonderful things with the life you have?
My main point is that life being temporary doesn't make your experiences less beautiful. You still have the opportunity to feel so much before you die, and all of that is real and valid.
