Don't know if this was said but this is a charity release. 100% of the proceeds are going to the National Compassion Fund, to benefit the victims and families affected by the Pulse shooting in Orlando.

She's giving me more reasons to love her. I'm so glad she's using her craft to help others especially during this time of tragedy. I respect her even more now, the song is gorgeous.

it was probably recorded/mixed very quickly within the past few days. it's obviously going to be a simple production, idk why people are expecting something different

That could have something to do with it, sure. I read from a usually reliable Christina twitter site that the rough demo already existed as an option for her new album, but I think they rushed in the studio to finish it this week. That being said, however, I think both the song and the lyric video are effectively understated and beautiful.
