Even though I couldn't care less who plays hermione in a play. Rowling is def. doing this not for the reasons she says. I mean she also approved various re-released covers of 'her' books around the world, including a white Hermione on various. She basically allowed the character to be molded to be a white person for a big part of the public. Not only with the movies, but also with the coverart of the books. If the character is potrayed as a white character on some covers of the book, it isn't odd for people to assume Hermione is white.

The best person should play the part in the play, I def. agree.But I am not here for Rowling calling people out while she and her publisher, basically have molded the potrayel that, some people seem to be upset about any other potrayel of the character. That isn't about racism, that is about people holding on to something she basically created. Ofcourse it is narrowminded from the people who are not open for different potrayels. But for Rowling to act that way, is a little too suspicious aswell.

If she wanted to have the character in the book seperated from Emma Watson, she never should have agreed with her Publisher to re-release the coverart of the books to be potrayed as the movie characters in various countries.

A good theatre production is color blind with it's casting. Do you know how many POC have played Shakespearean characters that were white in the original production?

Get over it. It's a play, a play most of you won't see, based on fictional characters. They chose the best actress for the job. (As I'm sure white women auditioned for the part as well)

All this outrage. For what? I'm an HP stan, and yes when I read the books Hermione was white in my head. Mainly because she was white in the movies. But in this medium she's being played by a black actress. That literally has no effect on how you're personally allowed to perceive Hermione.

If this play had casted Dean Thomas as a hot British white man I'm sure the tone of the detractors would be very different.

I honestly have no problems with Hermione being black in a play. Even if it was stated in the books that she is white, I wouldn't mind. Yes, it's a bit unusual but I'm okay with it. People who find it so bothering are probably quite close-minded.
