It's definitely a more global sound, maybe he can win back some countries.

It deserves a 10 out of 10 or a 5 out of 5 and nothing less, some people are so ****ing blind to not be able to see how great this album actually is. What way do you rank it, everyone?
Il mestiere della vita>>>>Nessuno è solo>>>>111 Centoundici>>>>Alla mia età>>>>L'amore è una cosa semplice>>>>Rosso relativo

It's definitely better than RR and 111 but that's pretty easy. Time will tell if it can compete with his other three. These heavily produced albums tend to be less timeless for me.
I wonder if he really said that Il Conforto is going to be the next single and not just a future single. It would be pretty strange to have the first two singles of this album be ballads. I would love it though, it's better than the other choices (IMDV, Solo, VA).
The third single should obviously be Lento / Veloce, for the summer.

The album's probably too polarizing to be as successful as the previous ones. I see a lot of negative reactions, similar to how people reacted to Elisa's latest. It's just hard to do well in Italy with music like this. Even his early albums mostly sold because of his epic ballads.
Hope it can still go platinum first week, but I have my doubts, especially cause TZN didn't manage it either.
Edit: Aah he just confirmed Il conforto will be the next single, perfect.

This album is amazing and up there as one of his best but why don't people see that? I think his stans appreciate it more than his casual fans do
I'm happy that Il conforto is the next single

I was driving and I heard Tiziano in three different stations in around 5 minutes, two were playing Potremmo Ritornare and the other one Sere Nere.

Why is Epic so low? Casa è vuota is amazing, people need to clean their ears, it's one of the best tracks on Il mestiere della vita.
Kworb, is Baby K rapping with Tiziano on the bridge of Epic? You can hear her voice.

I don't hear Baby K, but who knows. There's a lot of vocal production going on.
Here's my own review
Quote:
It's commonly understood that the greatest art comes from the greatest sorrow. Tiziano was an unhappy man for most of his life, struggling with accepting himself, his body, his sexuality. While wallowing in loneliness, depression and self-hatred, he wrote one masterpiece after another, often in very poetic and metaphoric ways so as to obscure his truth. Then he freed himself, recounted his liberation in L'amore è una cosa semplice, and finished his tale with a happy ending. And now we've reached the sequel. The part after the happy ending. Who is Tiziano without his demons?
Il mestiere della vita basically aims to answer this question. While his lyrics are still open to interpretation, they're definitely less complicated. Tiziano has reached a kind of clarity that also pervades his musical output. It's this subtle change that I think is the main difference between the old and the new Tiziano. I say subtle, because it doesn't mean the album is sickeningly positive, on the contrary. Everyone deals with struggles in life, even those who would generally consider themselves happy. There's still anguish on this album, there's anger, there's desperation, there's his desire to give and receive love. It's just not suffocating him anymore, because he can be himself. His desire to "be better" which in past songs sounded like a hopeless mantra, now sounds more like his reality.
This clarity doesn't mean he is now an open book. His personal life remains his own. In the album press conference he was quick to shoot down the way almost everyone had interpreted the lead single: it's not about his ex at all. He continues to write about the human condition in an anonymous and reflective way, painting these emotional situations that most people will be able to relate to in one way or another. That's always been his style, and he's not trying anything different in that regard. I'd even say it is starting to restrict him, as he has less to work with thematically.
Sonically the album is a brilliant amalgamation of everything he has done before, rather than a new direction altogether. Fresh but familiar. He does give in to his instincts, adding more hip hop elements than we're used to. There are experiments with song structure like on "Lento/Veloce" and "Epic" that work very well. The production recalls the clear and minimal beats from his earliest albums, but with an added electronic touch. The only downside is that producer Michele Canova has already been adding this same electronic touch to many other artists (Marco Mengoni, Francesca Michielin, Giorgia, Jovanotti) and while he does excel here yet again, in a way this is the most a Tiziano album has ever sounded like "everyone else" in Italian pop music, despite the fundamental differences in style.
Fortunately Tiziano was blessed with one of the most unique and evocative voices in the world, and his instrument is still in fine form. As usual, it's what carries these songs the most. He uses his range sparingly, which is again more reminiscent of his earlier albums, although this is his first album that doesn't even have an epic ballad. The only true vocal climax can be found in the stunning "La tua vita intera", a slow electronic ballad that to me is the album's highlight.
That's not to say the album lacks melodies. Those have always been and continue to be his strong point. They just span fewer octaves this time, and he sings them in a more subdued manner, more fitting of the genre. But melodies like "Il conforto" and "Ora perdona" are as good as any he's ever written. Lead single "Potremmo ritornare" is the odd duck, with hardly any melody and no electronic production. The song sounds extremely out of place. Even the sudden switch to swing music at the end ("Quasi quasi") is less jarring. But I'm still glad "Potremmo" is there, it adds more variety, and also reassures people that the old Tiziano is not gone.
So considering all this, what we're left with is just a really, really good pop record. It's not groundbreaking, I wouldn't even call it an evolution. But this album is just so... him. If it's not revealing enough of his life, well that's the way he is. If the hip hop and electronic influences are too strong, well that's what he loves. This is Tiziano making music for himself rather than for the people. And while this kind of self-indulgence will no doubt turn off fans and non-fans alike, I think the time was right for an album like this. Not commercially, as I fear this will be his least successful album yet, but artistically. Here's this guy who mostly listens to hip hop and R&B music, but he is mostly known and loved for singing adult contemporary tearjerkers. Il mestiere della vita is an appropriate beginning of this second chapter, a forceful reminder of who he really is as an artist, while at the same time embracing his past and building on it.

Brilliant review, Kworb. I agree with everything you said, he makes music for himself and not for the people.
