The Canadian band fronted by Bekki broke onto the countdown scene midway through 2010, these guys really made an impact with their infectious track Above Me. A ton of airplay, great countdown success, remains top 10 in weekly airplay and is one of only 3 songs to spend 10+ weeks in the top 10 on airplay in 2010 on my list. You simply cannot hold these guys down and this song is epic. Just watch the video and be amazed. Above Me the #9 Song Of The Year from Domenica.
SHIFT:They dropped from #6 to #9.
HIGHER:Spent 2nd most days on top of the daily airplay with 20 days, should be #1 if it was on longer.
LOWER:None.
Only 8 to go! Here's another video as we turn to break. This song just missed the cut so expect 2011 to be a bounce-back year for Lillix.
PERFORMANCE:Janell Wheeler "Try" / "Red Dress" / "With You" / "I Like Me" medley
We are up to #8, let's do it.

The oldest of the female contestants to make the top 24 on American Idol this year shined as the best among all of this past season's contestants. I Like Me stood out as those songs that makes you feel good about yourself and the message in this song is pretty good. Feel amazed by her voice. This song was high in airplay all year and was a contender for #1 since the day it set foot on the countdown. Janell Wheeler's I Like Me winds up as the #8 Song Of The Year and she is very happy that her fans have been there for her since her Idol journey got started.
SHIFT:She was #5, but slipped to #8.
HIGHER:An official music video would've helped greatly. Great airplay and chart success all year.
LOWER:None, except the lack of a music video hurt her chances.
Janell is an amazing talent, please check her stuff out. You will be blown away by her voice.
Only 7 songs to go! Will we find Lights, Stephanie, Orianthi, Carrie, KSM, Threadspinner or Linkin Park at #1? Stay tuned.
NOTES:Everyone but Lights and Linkin Park will have their highest finish on the endchart ever.
Need You Now didn't really strike me as amazing at first but it took me about six months to really appreciate the song. Lady Antebellum is a bonafide true artist, and I hope they win big at the Grammy's.
I hope Lady Antebellum wins big too at the Grammys. They deserve it.
OK, time for the #7 Song Of The Year. Sorry Gio, but Lights isn't #1
7. Lights - Second Go (Chart:#7, Airplay:#8, Fans:#7, Votes:388,501)

Lights can tickle a gnarly synth and continues to grow as an artist by making her 4th appearance in the top 200 with the massive hit Second Go. This was on her The Listening EP and while it didn't hit #1 on the countdown as much as Drive My Soul and February Air did, she got more airplay than those two and had better consistency. Oh and just remember that Lights is <3. Lights takes home the #7 Song Of The Year for Second Go and not only that, but scoring her 3rd straight top 10 finish on the endchart, thus becoming the first Canadian to pull such a feat....in a case where it may never happen again.
SHIFT:She went from #9 to #7.
HIGHER:Incredible airplay and chart success.
LOWER:Not enough Mainstream play. Radio should have played her music.
3 Soloists, 3 Groups left. Who wins? Stay tuned.
Remember, it's down to KSM, Carrie Underwood, Linkin Park, Orianthi, Threadspinner and Stephanie Brownlee
6. Orianthi - According To You (Chart:#4, Airplay:#7, Fans:#8, Votes:401,588)

The Aussie rocker Orianthi makes her 2nd appearance on the list at #6 with the mega-hit According To You. This hit #1 early and often by finishing up with 4 times on top of the bi-weekly chart, topping the airplay chart several times, being a big radio hit everywhere you looked. Orianthi's infectious vocals and amazing guitar skills helped get her to the top of the list during her run and also snagging the #6 Song Of The Year with According To You. Best of luck to Orianthi in 2011 as she looks to continue the momentum of winning the 2010 Best New Artist award on my list.
SHIFT:Goes from #7 to #6, but after early projections of #1 in the first quarter of 2010, considered a small disappointment...?
HIGHER:Fantastic all-around stats.
LOWER:Nothing you can say except the competition just was too tough.
As we head into break, check out Orianthi's latest video Courage.
Still to come, the final 5 songs of 2010. Did The Catalyst by Linkin Park do enough of a late-season push to snag #1? Will we finally have a Country singer top in Carrie Underwood with Cowboy Casanova? Will KSM and their song Read Between The Lines become the first girl-group since Dream to top in 2000? Is the magic there for Aussie Country singer Stephanie Brownlee with her Keep It Real smash? Or will we have a big Night Chorus party for Threadspinner as they lay claim to #1? So many questions to answer.
That should give you a clue at what's next right? Well here it is, THE #5 SONG OF 2010! IT BELONGS TO..............BTW TY to all the comments so far.
5. Stephanie Brownlee - Keep It Real (Chart:#6, Airplay:#9, Fans:#10, Votes:453,996)

This is the last of 3 Stephanie Brownlee songs in the top 100, this was the song that got things started for Stephanie Brownlee. What do you get when you bring a Country singer, a catchy chorus, addicting lyrics, great style and personality, and hints of Stephanie McIntosh? The answer is Stephanie Brownlee. This girl from down under took it to the skies and the top of the charts with tons of airplay and chart success as Keep It Real takes home a great honor, the #5 Song Of The Year. No shame in finishing 5th when you were at one point considered to be top 20 at best.
SHIFT:She went from #8 to #5.
HIGHER:Tons of airplay when it mattered, solid stats and becoming the most successful Australian Country singer to chart of all-time.
LOWER:None.
REASON FOR BEING #1:She has a swagger just like Stephanie McIntosh. She knows that this is only the beginning for her music career. 2nd best Rookie Of The Year soloist IMO.
Here's another video from her called Into You as we go to break. 4 songs left! Carrie v.s. KSM v.s. Linkin Park v.s. Threadspinner....who's #1?
Me:WE ARE DOWN TO THE FINAL 4! WHICH SONG COMES IN AT #4? IT'S......
4. Linkin Park - The Catalyst (Chart:#9, Airplay:#5, Fans:#4, Votes:467,307)
VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51iquRYKPbs
MUSIC: http://linkinpark.com/http://www.myspace.com/linkinparkhttp://www.last.fm/music/Linkin+Park
10 years ago they were in the running for the #1 Song Of The Year for One Step Closer which was their first single. Now a decade passes and they come oh so close again finishing #4 for their hit The Catalyst. The long-time band who has been making it happen for so many years continues to stay strong with their latest album A Thousand Suns and don't plan to be going away anytime soon. The Catalyst by Linkin Park ends up the #4 Song Of The Year. You can say they are happy with their finish, but they will realistically tell you it's a disappointment that they're not #1.
SHIFT:Holds steady at #4.
HIGHER:Great airplay. Solid all-around stats.
LOWER:Too late in the year of its release to be a factor.
REASON FOR BEING #1:Veteran band, been there done that, great song, lyrics, video and airplay...solid chart run.
Me:THAT MEANS WE'RE DOWN TO 3! COWBOY CASANOVA, READ BETWEEN THE LINES AND NIGHT CHORUS. WHICH SONG IS #1? FIND OUT TOMORROW AS WE REVEAL THE FINAL 3 SONGS. WE'LL SEE YOU BACK HERE AT NOON TOMORROW FOR THE #3 SONG OF THE YEAR, AND THEN TOMORROW SOMETIME AROUND 8-9, WE GIVE YOU THE TOP 2 SONGS OF 2010!
If you need more LP fix, here's 2 videos from them.
Me:Well let's get right into it...the #3 SONG OF 2010 IS......
3. Threadspinner - Night Chorus (Chart:#1, Airplay:#1, Fans:#3, Votes:563,501)

Sarah Corum and the band known as Threadspinner became an instant contender just days into their run with the melodic and infectious Night Chorus. Considered to be one of the greatest songs to ever make my countdown, Night Chorus had the best airplay on my chart all year along with the most weeks at #1 all year for a song on the countdown. This band has been on fire and is still very high in the airplay chart so don't be surprised if they become the first artist ever to finish back-to-back years in the top 3 for this song....this song has so many legs that it can't be slowed. Night Chorus by Threadspinner is this year's Bronze Medalist and #3 Song Of The Year. Enjoy the awesome of this song and video and witness why this song rocks!
SHIFT:They were #1, but they dropped to #3. Not a good enough speech Sarah...
HIGHER:Best song in airplay all year, this took #1 an incredible 5 weeks on the weekly airplay, a fantastic 25 times on top of the daily chart, and a sizzling 7 weeks on top of my countdown. (Yes, weeks...not times)
LOWER:NONE! THIS SONG IS AMAZING!
REASON FOR BEING #1:Um, everything I said about this song is amazing. You need to take a whirl.
Here's another video from them if u need more of a fix.
And it all comes down to this! Carrie Underwood "Cowboy Casanova" v.s. KSM "Read Between The Lines". They were 1 and 2 much of the entire year.....who wants it more? Carrie nation, or the KSM troops? FIND OUT AT 8 PM EST WHERE WE CROWN A CHAMPION! But first, we will bring you the final side list of the year....that will be a mystery till it's revealed.
NOTES:
KSM will likely never have another shot at the #1 song of the year. They split up months ago to do separate projects while Sophia went off to college. Can KSM close their magical 2010 campaign with the top song?
Carrie may never come this close to #1 again. She was painfully close with All-American Girl and Before He Cheats in the past, and is guaranteed her best endchart showing ever. But will it result in her first ever #1 finish?
The odds say Carrie's a favorite....stay tuned to find out who wins! Reminder, 8 PM sharp that we will reveal the #2 song.
If you're keeping score...here's 2008 and 2009's top 20.
2008

2009

18. Elisa Jordana - Young Love

16. Ryan Star - Last Train Home

8. Girls Aloud - The Loving Kind
7. Lights - February Air
6. Darling Parade - Lose You
5. Jazmin - Figure Me Out
4. Angelica Rose - I'm Still Here
3. Mixi - I Miss Those Days (Ghost)
2. Ashley Tisdale - It's Alright, It's OK
1. Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody
Now compare this year's top 20 to the last 2 years. The only song to be on the top 20 in back-to-back years is the amazing Lose You which was #18 this year and #6 last year. You do see Jazmin, Girls Aloud, David Cook, ATR, Coldplay, Metallica, Britt Nicole, Angelica Rose, MGMT and Katy Perry....none of them even made it to the endchart this year. In a sense, it was a bounce back year for the experienced singers like Carrie, Linkin Park, Lady Antebellum (new to mainstream). Lights is easily the strongest artist with #5, #7 and #7 in consecutive years. Aussies remain strong though, 6th consecutive year an Aussie artist has finished top 40 on the Endchart.
We showcased you KSM's Read Between The Lines during the 2009 Endchart late December, but will it be this year's #1? We also showcased Carrie's Cowboy Casanova during the show. One of these 2 will take home the 2010 #1 Song Of The Year. Stay tuned to find out who takes it.
If you still need help deciding, watch both videos.....tell me what you think.
