This is a good idea. If only ONE person out of forty mentioned a song, then why bother? Anything worth a nomination would have gotten more than one mention

I think 80 choices for a category is still overwhelming, even if I forgot about them initially. I think it would be best to narrow it down a bit to top vote getters in those categories using an established and provided formula (eg. All submissions with more than 1 vote).

If we added all submissions, everyone who voted for certain materials before the longlists, will just vote for the same things in the step after that. There'd be no point of the pre-nominations process, might as well just announce the nominees from the 40 entries we have.

I'd vote for at least eliminating ones that just got one vote in the main categories. I've seen so many in this thread that I forgot to vote for but if they're relevant they'll have a few anyway.

On that note: Last year, the longlists were only comprised of the top submissions for each category. Some members didn't like that, so I might change it this year. Do you all think I should include every album/song/artist submitted to a category instead, or should I just keep the same longlists process?

I've changed my stance. I think for ROTY and SOTY, any song that only got one vote should not show up on the longlist.

only post the top 15 for each category if that category exceeded 40 different submissions,

post 10 if the submission amount in that category was less than 30.

the top 8 when the long list is less than 20. (SO categories like Dance and Country and Rock)

the top 5 if there was just 10 submissions.
