Late night drunk finishing of K! Excpetct some slight Kanye later on in a really big rant! (in a good way)
The Knocks
“Streetlights are singing!”
Song: Dancing With Myself by The Knocks
Why: These guys made my list last year too! Their tiny EP was nice and I love that they have songs that are "party ready" but in a bit of a deeper way than an easily-made dance song. This one was my favorite from their small EP. Can't wait for their full album cause it's gonna have amazing people on it like Carly Rae and Fetty!!
Check Out: From the EP Time is good for the vocalist. Their song that's about "My Taylor Swift" is also amazing.
Avoid: Non@
Kwabs
“Your love has powers over me.”
Song: Perfect Ruin by Kwabs
Why: His song with Disclosure sucked but I still checked him out. I like his album actually. Not a LOVE album, but still good. Not sure why this song was my favorite, but the piano with his song fits really well and the song makes me a bit emotional.
Check Out: Fight for Love, Make you Mine, and the title track
Avoid: Most of the album's middle songs like Forgiven and Layback
I just finished listening to the Kwabs and Disclosure song and ugghh. It's so bad. Perfect Ruin is almost infinitely better.
The Knocks album has both Carly, and Fetty? Why does that seem like such a strange combo. It's been a strange year though (just saw Fetty released a Christmas song). Dancing With Myself is cool though
Update for L soon and then maybe M today/tomorrow since it's such a big category!

Glad to see you agree. I definitely was happy to check out all the musicians from Disclosure's album but when I checked out Kwabs I was like... he makes music like this and his collab with Disclosure was... THAT? Cmon Disclosure.
Yeah it is a strange combo indeed. Fetty threw a feat. on an older song by the Knocks and it's cool! They seem to have a mix of them singing, females, males, and rappers on their stuff. Cam'ron is on a new song of theirs too.
Why: With her first album, she never really seemed that exciting or a need to check out. Blood seemed to get more traction, and I was interested in the descriptions of the album, and I actually loved it when I checked it out.
This song in particular is my favorite because of the combination of the bass and drums sounding somewhat jazzy. The lyrics of her upbringing is really sweet as well. I just think it's an all-encompassing song for the album.
Check Out: What You Don't Do is another sweet song and it's more pop if that's your thing. Unstoppable, the opener, is grand in all the right ways. Tokyo is another mellow jam.
Avoid: Never Get Enough is the only one I don't like. I don't think it really fits the album much.
Not you snubbing a certain iconic, talented, acclaimed, legendary artist with this update.
But anyway, I really like Green and Gold but my favourites on the album are Unstoppable and Never Get Enough. The latter might not really fit on the album, but I think it works well, but I'll explain more about that later.

I knew you'd be running here for that once it was an L. I know, I should have included LCD Soundsystem's Christmas song. It's so good!
Yes, I'll be checking your Best Of to see your thoughts on Never Get Enough!
Why: Did you guys know that there is a singer named Mia Borders? Searching this song is the only way I found out. She has a song called Southern Fried Soul. I wonder how she'd feel about this song.
Of course M.I.A. was gonna make a song about border control and other "big cultural events" like breaking the Internet. Who else was going to? I think we're getting a new album next year. That would be nice.
Check Out: Swords.

Mac DeMarco
“How's your heart been beating?”
Song: The Way You'd Love Her by Mac DeMarco
Why: Just got into Mac this year and his mini-album was really nice! (outside of the fact that pretty much every song started the exact same way) It's a very sweet song with a really nice guitar (?) solo in the bridge that really gets your attention.
Check Out: Another One and Just to Put Me Down
Avoid: I don't think No Other Heart is great and what is the point of the Water song I'd just go outside if I wanted to listen to rushing water god damn it (although the little thing he said at the end was cool).
Madeon
“Darling, this is something I should have told you long ago.”
Song: Pay No Mind (feat. Passion Pit) by Madeon
Why: This was exactly the route Passion Pit should have gone down because everything that they released this year on their own was so disappointing. The song has a great mix of what makes Passion Pit great with certain synths and his voice in combination with the "child's chorus" that sings with him in certain parts of the song, paired with Madeon's good productions.
I think Adventure was my favorite EDM album this year. I wasn't really going into it expecting a lot and I found myself liking a lot of songs. Good EDM.
Check Out: OK is my second favorite (I guess Charli co-wrote it which is cool) and I also like You're On a lot. Zephyr was another good one.
Avoid: I would say to just avoid the deluxe tracks. I like the album, but it can get a bit samey so the standard version has just enough songs.
Why: Thank GOD this song became a hit. I remember thinking it was just gonna be a hit in the EDM/electronic realm and I remember being at a party and a good amount of people were like "change this song!" and now the same people love it. lol people are so damn fickle and controlled by the radio sometimes.
I feel like I don't need to explain why I like the song so much, so I won't! The video is also great. MO's silly dancing working so well here, throwing in the producers in little bits, making a video of cultural appreciation rather than appropriation, it all comes together!
Check Out: Uh I didn't listen to their full album so... ask someone else.
Avoid: See above!
Marina & the Diamonds
“Truth is in us all, cradle to the grave.”
Song: Savages by Marina & the Diamonds
Why: Let me just ramble for a bit here. I love Marina. I really do. I was late on listening to full albums from musicians (for the most part) and I remember really falling in love with Marina back in 2010 and that was kinda when I started listening to much more music. I've seen her live lots, I actually got to meet her back in October, and I'm just a huge fan.
Talking about the album first: it may be my favorite from her. Lots of great productions, love that it has live instrumentation, the drums are fantastic in pretty much all the songs, and I think it's great.
Savages was I think my favorite when the album came out, so it's nice that I still think this way. I like to bring these topics up with my friends when we have like "deep talk" and such and it's interesting. The song is a bit cliche, but you could argue that about a lot of different music. And it is pretty relevant with events like Paris still occurring even though this was written about the Boston bombings about a year ago.
David really made sure the production on this was fantastic too. The drums in particular are strongest on this song (this and Blue) and it carries the song. The vocal filter that kinda bogs down some songs fits incredibly well on the chorus, and the operatic vocal run at the end is such a great moment too.
Check Out: FROOT is still the best from the album and probably her best song ever (but that was in my Best Of last year). Blue is another fantastic one. I think Better Than That is kinda underrated. I'm a Ruin has some stupid lyrics but is also great (and is really good live too).
Avoid: Forget + Weeds are the two that I think are kinda crappy, but I still will listen to.
The Meeting Tree
“Wait... are you a cop?”
Song: r u a cop by The Meeting Tree
Why: I think someone posted this in the Music Discovery Thread and I was like "whoa... I don't know how I feel about this" but now I just kinda get down to how stupid and trashy it is. You might hate it, I kinda hate that I like it, but whatever.
Check Out: I don't know if they have anymore music.
