Makeup knowledge comes bit by bit. Been wearing it forever (starting with my dear mascara of course) and I'm still learning. But if you spend time with him and read up reviews and tutorials, you'll learn bit by bit. If I were you, I'd actually ask him about it. I dunno about the other makeup lovers in this thread but I loved it when my ex boyfriend would ask me questions! Like, I was about to contour (triangles, under eyes etc) and highlight and he asked me what the heck am I doing
It showed genuine interest and he ending up knowing a lot

Well urban decay is more of a lock in spray so I wouldn't recommend it at the beginning stages of applying foundation, i'd recommend fix plus for the blending at first since that's it's purpose (binding makeup together).
Urban decay is like the last thing to lock that makeup and make it not budge.

I've been trying to get into makeup for years. I don't use it regularly but i love my NARS foundation so much

I hate the contouring/baking stuff so much. Ain't nobody got time for that also I have hooded eyes so I'm trying to learn the best eyeshadow techniques for me. Thankfully I found a lady on YouTube with great advice/tutorials for hooded eyes. I'm so thankful for her

Eye primer is 100% a must if you wear a decent amount of eyeshadow or want it to last. Or a base at least to give your shadows a foundation. TBH sometimes it's just nice to put it on with no eyeshadow even cause I like how it smoothes and evens my lids.

Fix + Does a lot of things. It helps the make up stick to your skin a bit (it has some glycerin) so you can use it before your make up. It binds make up together so you can use it in between foundation and contour (like bind your foundation if its powdered, wait a bit and go over with contour or highlight etc, or spray it on the beauty blender and use your concealer) and also helps the face look less cakey, especially when using powdered products (makes it kinda melt in your skin if i must say). Also good hydrator for your skin and gives you a dewy J Lo glow, emphasises your highlighter.

Thats why everyone loves Fix + and its OG, but in terms of locking/setting in make up, its not a fav. Urban Decay >>>

Interesting! I kinda can't even wear foundation by itself anymore. Like sometimes i'll even skip foundation but go to contouring, it doesn't take that long honestly. For me foundation takes more time.

I feel like foundation washes away all the features of your face and sets it to a neutral color and i have to bring out those colors back with bronzer and the features back (Cheekbones, nose bridge) with high lighter and contour. But thats just me

I haven't been there but I live in one of the "desert" states so I'm sure I'd love it I love Colourpop too, I have like 7 colors but yes Kat Von D's are amazing, I just don't like the price lol, I recently bought a Jeffree Star liquid lipstick even though he been annoying & it was the best formula I ever tried it even was scented like Root Beer.

Lots and lots of practice! I started wearing them about a year ago and I was so bad at it at first, but what I do now is put a thin layer of eyelash adhesive on the band, let it sit for about 30 seconds to make it tackier, then use tweezers to put them on for more precise application

I've gotten so used to wearing makeup over the past year and a half that I don't feel right not wearing it. Like if I want to be at least somewhat productive I need to put it on when I get up in the morning. It's as much a part of getting ready each day now as clothes are for me.

I understand too, that happened to me. i could not leave the house, even if its a bit of mascara. Plus i'll get excited when I'm about to put makeup its like art but on my face.

Me too, sometimes I'm like "let me put mascara and foundation", yet I end up with full makeup. It's just very relaxing process.

I'm a drugstore child and I stay finding cheaper dupes since brands like Mac, Urban Decay, even Colourpop (which many people find affordable) are pretty expensive here. I might try them in the future, out of curiosity. I enjoy what I have since our local brands (and European in general) have really stepped up.
