So before bothering to correct other people, better have checked your own grammar too.

If we were talking academics, business matters or anything of that sort, then of course improper grammar should be criticized.
I'm that odd English major who doesn't go around correcting everyone's grammar and being a snot about what wording to use. Academic settings are different, though. No shade intended.

This!
It is so weird to see some here acting so arrogant with it when some of us are not from America or UK/Canada. I barely had english classes at school. It is even funnier that some here could act so pompous about these rules when they don't even understand how they are used or why they apply, they have just memorized them like a robot will memorize a code, yet they have the nerve to act like they have a special gift. And they even made some grammatical mistakes in this thread.
However I have to admit the thread was a great idea if it was intented to help people improve their english. And a special thanks the members here that were willing to explain the workings of your language without acting superior (especially 100pounds) .
I still don't get it, I'm always so happy to see foreigner writing in French or trying to speak it. I guess people are different.
Although when I'm with french people only I also have my pet peeves.
