I think when I was younger, I was kind of quiet and left out a lot, a bit like Bulbasaur. The kids at school used to always talk about how cool Charizard was because he looked like a dragon and Ash had one in the TV show. Blastoise had those massive guns popping out of his shell, and they were both on the covers of the two games.
I felt Bulbasaur/Venusaur were so left out. This sounds soooooooooo sad, but I could really relate to them.  And Venusaur was actually the best competitively back then (and still is now), but obvoiusly little kids don't know that. |
This is why I stan for Bulbasaur, obviously everyone goes for Charmander based on what he becomes in the future (if they are strong enough to get him there). And even then, that doesnt mean their Charizard will be a strong one (cackle). Squirtle is great, I have nothing against him, but people only like him because he is considered "cool."
Bulbasaur is perfect, smart, loyal, strong, and dependent. Not to mention he is first starter Pokemon Ash caught on his own and he is probably the strongest grass type in any region if trained correctly.
I liked him because it was cute 
and red was my favorite color 
and I had a thing for the fire type.
