'Recovery' is a piece of art. A masterpiece, I can say. It's an emotional roller-coaster into Eminem's personal life and problems, which takes us deep into his mind and feelings. The anger he delivers through his song is hair-raising, since he has so much in him that he empties his emotion in his music, which in my opinion, is amazing, since not a lot of rappers do so. Most of them prefer to sing about superficial, material stuff. Eminem is the exception, Eminem is the King.
Standouts: "Love the Way You Lie", "Not Afraid", "Won't Back Down", "Almost Famous", "Spacebound", "No Love".
Spacebound is my absolute favorite song from the album
This video was released in late 2009, but I still felt like it needed to be honored. It is really better than a lot of videos released in 2009. First, there are a lot of custom changes, scenes and a choreography that keeps it interesting to watch. The effects are right on spot and not over-done. The lightning is bright and clear; which gave the video "good" vibe (Not dark as the song might feel like). The whole place where GaGa is in is completely white, which might represent a "wedding" or "death". If you connect it to the song, Wedding & Death = Bad Romance. The camera angels and shot sizes are perfectly done. The video also combines purity and evilness; the scene where GaGa looks beautiful with barley any make-up on, naked. This is the vulnerable side of the song, while the strong yet evil side of the song is reveled through the dancing moves with the red outfit and the burning bed. There couldn't have done a better video for this song, and this video is probably one of the best videos of all time. Deserves every of the 320,148,253 views it got so far, and more.
1. Runaway – Kanye West
Oh Kanye. Kanye is such an amazing artist, songs and videos. And this is a great example of the musical genuis; Kanye West. The video is supposed to be a music video for the song "Runaway" of the best crticially acclaimed album of 2010; "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy", but it's way more than that. During the video we get to hear 9 songs of the album, which is a great launch and mix. The video is 34:32 minutes long, the longest video to be released this year, and the longest in years. The views are breath-taking and shot very beautifully. The lightning is very natural, which makes even better. The video follows the story of a fallen phoenix who encounters a Griffin (Kanye) on planet Earth. The woman who portrays the pheonix is very beautiful, attractive and looks angelic. The video follows their evolving relationship which ends up being a love story of the two, and the journey of the phoenix exploring Earth. The effects in the video are magnificent, especially the fire effects. The "Runaway" video itself is very simple, yet beautiful and creative. The twist in the video is that the phoenix wants to go back to her own world. The video ends with with a very important social message, when the phoenix and the griffin start discussing how sculptures were made, when the phoenix say they are phoenixes turned into stone. She says; "Do you know what I hate most about your world? Anything that is different you try to change.". She says she needs to burn, so she can turn back to her own world, which is a metaphor, to be true and honest to yourself in order to live your world, and not let it be ripped apart by people.
"Runaway" is an amazing piece of art, a masterpiece. Which is why it's my best video of 2010.
