Haha, there's a hefty bit of revisionism going on. TFM Gaga wasn't exactly called "effortless" by her critics at the time. In fact, it was more like "she's such a try-hard now, I want TF Gaga back."
Everyone was saying the exact same things then, as they were saying about her now. Suddenly everyone loved the Fame Monster era.
I just wanted to travel back to 2008 and love that girl again, the crazy cool Gaga who lived in my heart, not the bitch who i shade in a regular bases.

Not always. I remember when she performed in a talk show (i think it was Jay Leno) and she wore a nude body with no pants. Everyone said it was scandalous that she performed "naked" and "pantless" in a show. Effortless and polemical, no need for blood, just that.

Attention-seeking is in Gaga's DNA, i can't fight that. But back then it was more effortless and not so try-hard.
And if her attention-seeking had only gone so far as just... going pantless... then people would have stopped caring/talking about that right quick. Where you feel she's "crossed the line" is always arbitrary, she was a try-hard from the start, and I think that plays into the self-aware commentary on fame.
