A great song with a cute video that makes him look atrocious and is best remembered for setting up my favourite Azealia beef of the year, this upbeat dance bop is exactly what his album needed more of. Cute vocals, nice beat, okay premise, this song's relegation to a bonus track still disgusts me.

Tinashe - Company
From the album ‘Nightride’
The one good thing to come out of Tinashe's abysmal 2016, this song was just enough to give me hope after the abomination that was SuperLove that she may have something left in her. Granted, she let me down, but this is a genuinely lovely song with good production that never tries to overreach for pop crossover potential.

Anderson .Paak - Lite Weight
From the album ‘Malibu’
The underrated standout on his album, the phrasing in the chorus is immediately catchy without even a melody the vocals in the post-chorus invented falsetto, the production is simple yet seductive. The cornerstone of an amazing year for this guy.

Dua Lipa - Hotter Than Hell
From the album ‘Dua Lipa’
Before, I was kinda worried that she’d pigeonholed herself into the tokenistic ‘new! indie! girl!’ route with some nice but not great (other than Be The One) songs, but on this song she really took her pop side by the horns and it opens her up to a far greater range of styles, let’s hope her album delivers.

And The Kids - Friends Share Lovers
From the album ‘Friends Share Lovers’
A really overlooked song, this is an adorable song about how incestuous friendship groups can get without ever judging the whole circumstances of it. A deceptively simple pop-rock song about love and all the drama and mess it brings, nothing more and nothing less.
SuperLove wasn't an abomination I like Company a lot tho. One of the 3-4 good songs this year for her.
I thought Like I Would was Nick Jonas. All these males are indistinguishable...
A truly haunting IDM album, this really makes the electronic and the organic come together into a haunting colossus that looms heavy whilst remaining lightweight and elusive in the best way possible, as her vocals contrast brilliantly against his production to create a brilliantly disorienting effect.

David Bowie - Blackstar
One of his better latter-day albums, this isn't the masterpiece that some people claimed it to be but it's a solid jazz-inspired rock album and one of his oddly enough one of his liveliest in recent times whilst ruminating largely on his death. Short in tracklisting but quite long in time, listening in full can be a challenge but it's definitely rewarding.

Red Velvet - Russian Roulette
Thank f*** for the quick turnaround times in k-pop. Rebounding from the near career-ruining mess that was The Velvet, they keep the tempos higher and the hooks catchier and effectively salvage their career with arguably their best work to date. Whereas their previous efforts were largely held up by one or two tentpoles (Ice Cream Cake/Automatic and Dumb Dumb/Red Dress), this EP has three clear highlights in Bad Dracula/Sunny Afternoon/Some Love but even the filler-y Fool is better than the crap they released before, let's hope they keep up this creative streak and turn out a great full-length next time!

Yak - Alas Salvation
I don't really know why, but this album makes me feel great. The production is a bit ****** but the mixing does a fantastic job at hiding this, the vocals aren't traditionally great but they work well in context and I didn't even notice how messy they were for ages, the hooks shine through but never overpower the music. Good stuff.
