This is probably the strongest single from the album, which is why it shouldn't have been the first single. I think the best single should always be reserved for the second single (compare Breakaway era to All I Ever Wanted era). That isn't to say they couldn't have come up with a better first single. I just don't think this should have been it.

Well, if mkia is not the lead single, i don't think it will ever be a single on the album at all. But i'm guessing that the moment when kelly heard the song, She already envision what sort of music video she want this song to be about which is about the media even though lyrically this song can be about a guy.

MKIA is the last song that was recorded for the album. WDKY was probably going to be the lead single since kelly said the label were deciding between two songs. And Kelly also said like "Are we really going to do this" and was like whatever. So the label and kelly indeed took a risk with MKIA.

And how are you so sure ? Kelly's director said that her first single didn't leak. Clearly the label was choosing between MKIA and WDKY. Believe me people would be bitching also of WDKY was the first single, because it's so generic and kelly. MKIA is very different for kelly so I applaud her and rca for releasing it. The song is already a semi-hit. When all is said and done, people wouldn't dare to call this a flop.

MKIA is a lock for top 3 HAC/AC and top 10 pop. It already hit #1 in three countries so there is no way in hell it's going to be considered a flop. Underperformed ? Maybe. There is a big difference between underperforming and flopping.

Exactly. RCA learned from their mistake. I'm 100% sure that if Mr.Know It All was the second single it wouldn't reach the success that it will/would achieve now.

This era is going freaking flawless imo. Second singles are album boosters, when WDKY blows up so will the album.

I have noo idea. He is part of the decision I think but there is some kind of team who does that. I've heard they just sit in a meeting room and play the contenders for the next singles and they vote.

I'm pretty sure IDNHU was both Kelly's and the label's desicion. Even early on it was between IDNHU and MLWSWY as the first single. Can you imagine how different that era would've been if IDNHU was the first single? lol

Its weird to hear people bash IDHU now because I remember everyone loved it and supported it when it first came out. I personally never loved it because I can't really relate to it(lol) and it was always the inferior between the two Katy tracks. It never quite grew on me. loved the bridge though and the live version too. I think it could've done well but I guess people thought it was too preachy. Its a different time in music now. Meh.

I'm pretty sure Kelly said in an interview that she didn't want Long Shot on the album because it sounded too much like Katy but the label forced it on there. Thank God for that because the song is flawless. It would explain why she only performed it live once.
