I find her music to be over-rated. I think people feel like they have more substance if they listen to Adele because she is something other than Katy Perry and Britney Spears when in fact you can listen to whatever the hell music you want and still have substance as a person. She makes people feel intelligent and sophisticated. British, talented and not the kind of appearance expected from the music industry these days.

Or maybe people buy her music because *GASP* they really think it's that good? Yeah, there are some bandwagon fans who may only pretend to like Adele to seem cool, but I highly doubt they supplement the majority of the people who bought her album. And not liking Katy Perry or Britney does not have to be tied in with snobbishness, some people may just genuinely prefer people who can perform live and whose music doesn't lose their luster after just a few listens. I've been a fan of Adele since 2008, I unabashedly listen to pop music, but I'm not afraid to say that from a talent and artistic standpoint, she easily ***** on the majority of the pop stars out right now.
But to answer the question itself, it's far too soon to determine Adele or anyone else for that matter to be the voice of this generation. We can speculate on who might go down as one, and it doesn't have to be just one artist. Adele is great, but she's not the only talented artist around making great music. And like others have pointed out, she's still pretty early in her career. The success of
21 won't determine the success of future albums.

And that's fine, too. That's why she will always be accepted in her niche market. I'm sure Norah Jones isn't complaining.
And believe it or not, but chances are some of these current "entertaining" pop girls probably won't have much longevity either. Funny thing is, unlike Adele, they won't have a niche market to run to when pop radio moves on to the next generic girl or gimmick.

Exactly.
