I honestly say #1, but with a caution. Limit to someone making no more than 3 posts a day per person in any official artist thread (unless they're updating the thread with any news/chart updates)
Besides, I love the Ashley and Sara threads.....and of course I'm impartial on Madonna since I don't like 4 Minutes so yeah....

#1 is the first CHOICE, please Guys!!!!
Dont Be Afraid with MOD, the site is dedicated to US not the mod!!!!!! we want it, we get it

Bouncing around a couple ppl here:
I actually didn't mind as well as respected SOME artists getting their own threads where all the news & pics of them getting stalked by paparazzi. The (now called) m&c forum was no longer flooded with Britney and other pop diva topics as they were consolidated to mainly just one thread. ATRL was actually neater this way.
As for now, I think directing these "official" threads into groups is a fair idea. However, this concept should apply for ALL artists and not just a selective few.
Also there needs to be a FORMALLY SET definition of "news" (including examples would help certain posters here regarding this idea)

for once, an ATRL policy controversy that doesn't involve me!
until now i guess.
maybe we should force threads in the Main Music Forum to stay on-topic by preventing people from changing their thread titles in that area.

#3 because I think it's fair for everyone to be able to post threads. It just seems too exclusive if only one person runs official threads.

It has to be #1 or #3.
#2 would cause an artist bias.
Imagine the arguments people would have over who should have an official thread. I lean toward #3, because with that choice, only necessary information would be posted and not " OMGZ Exclusive pics of Britney going to Starbucks" kind of stuff. Yes, I picked Britney but you could replace that name with anyone else.

#3.
I've noticed the music news forum was cluttered with official artist threads. If there are official artist threads, they should be able to be updated by anyone, not the original thread creator. And also, there has to be rules as for what constitutes news, eg. new albums or singles or tours. If such an arrangement isn't possible, it's best not to have any official artist threads.

Artists that have albums out or albums that are about to come out should have official threads until that era is dead.
If the era is still alive there is obviously gonna be lots of news to post like single news, tour dates, upcoming appearances, etc and it would be pointless to make new threads for everytime a new piece of news comes out.

I like the idea of having official threads. I only care about a couple artists so it was easy to go to their official topics when I wanted to talk about them or see what they were up to. Now it's total chaos and this forum has become as lame as MTV. And who is going to determine what is newsworthy? Some bias moderator that hates the artists we want to talk about? Why did you have to change a good thing? If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Besides, there's plenty of people that don't care for Britney, Madonna, Mariah or even Alicia for that matter so what will they have to talk about? This is why we gotta do option #1 even though Nick makes a good case.

I'm something of a newcomer here so I've been sitting back reading what all has been said. I gather the original reason for 'official' threads was so that you wouldn't have a hundred different threads dedicated to the same artist and to make it easier for everyone to go to one thread to read the latest about him/her.
For whatever it's worth, my experience with my own message board (which is not terribly dissimilar to this one) is that we have broad thread categories (news, polls, artists, 'the cage' where people can argue, etc) and we encourage people to post in the thread appropriate to their comment, but it's not compulsory. Nothing on our board is compulsory. We don't ban people, we don't lock down threads, and we don't delete threads. This freedom gives us a real community spirit and despite what you might think, we don't have people ranting and raving and acting childishly. Troublemakers are dealt with mainly by being ignored, which is what they hate most, and they soon disappear and don't come back. I can't even remember the last time we even had one on the board.
The other thing I would say is that I don't see how you can arbitrarily say one artist is deserving of an 'official' thread and another isn't. That's just playing favorites. I am surprised that some say "obviously Madonna and Britney" deserve one. There's nothing obvious about it. Whoever you like is deserving of one, to you. I say either open it up to everyone or don't have any.
Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Just generally speaking, I hate message boards that have a lot of rules and where the admins/mods become petty tyrants over their little kingdoms. I've been kicked off a few in the past and I'm sure I will be again in the future.

The artist fan groups can contain all the news about the artists.
because i do remember the music forum being a bit chaotic... back during popfusion.
umm and maybe instead of my original idea of separating groups into two.... the music forum could contain the artist fan groups....
just a thought.....
but TC said that this would be hard to do anyway
My choice is still #3 though....because #2 would be biased

#3. It just got way too out-of-hand before they were all closed. I was starting to see threads for artists that haven't even had an album come out yet, and a lot of the news was just stupid. I seriously don't give a damn about pictures of Britney living her life, or single-question interviews that give the vaguest hint of a new Christina album.
Honestly, I browse the Main Music Forum to hear new singles, read news stories with substance, check out the Billboard Positions, and just read up on the stuff I'm interested in. I don't go there to browse through a mini-fan club for every artist and their mother.
