Attack of the Ambition: Top 80 Songs (65-61)
Well, I said that it would be up by tomorrow (or today now), and I was right. See? I'm getting better about keeping promises!
As I mentioned in the summary for Slipknot's top ten-making album, All Hope Is Gone, the opening sounds like Slipknot, only with Mastodon playing in the background. That leads up to one of the more nasty and brutal tunes to be released this year. The main riff of the song is, like most Slipknot songs, relatively simple, but it's also intense enough to separate itself from the pack, and Corey Taylor continues to sound like an absolute beast on the mic. And I haven't even mentioned the solo yet! When it comes to solos that are fire, "This Cold Black" gives to people third-degree burns.

Boom-boom, boom-ba-boom, boom-boom, boom-baboom-baboom. Relatively simple sounding? Yeah, sure. But it's infectious, and, before long, it becomes engraved in your brain, only to leave after you listen to it enough times to make you grow tired of the song...only for it to come back, whenever it feels like it, to torture you into listening to it again and again. I also really love the ending of this song. Very harmonious.

All I need to do is show you the chorus lyrics to show you why I love this song so much.
"Bow down
Sell your soul to me
I will set you free
Pacify your demons
Bow down
Surrender unto me
Submit infectiously
Sanctify your demons
Into abyss
You don't exist
Cannot resist
THE JUDAS KISS!"
Pure awesome.

Fun fact: the opening instrumental of this song is actually what originally hooked me to Evil Urges. That's right. There may be a couple of songs that are higher up that I like more from the album, but this is still the song that kickstarted my love for MMJ, Prince-sounding songs be damned. This is still one of the most beautiful songs of the year, and, once again, here's a song that proves that you don't have to be complex to be amazing, as this is one of the simplest songs on this year's list.

I will readily admit that I still have not listened to Division. My fault? Probably. But it still doesn't change the facts. And it seems really odd that I haven't, because I adore this song, now more than ever. Honestly, I heard the "rock version" of this song, and immediately listened to the original right after to compare the two, and it was no contest: the original sounded more authentic and more musicially beautiful. More importantly, it gave me a greater appreciation of this song, and that's never not awesome. Lead singer Jesse Hasek has been known to say that this song is a "love song gone horribly wrong". Perfect.

Twenty down, still another sixty to go. The next block features maybe the catchiest song of 2008. You'll see what I mean when I post 60-56 sometime.

Dude, listen to Division. It's in my top two albums for a reason.
I hate that Beck song. Reminds me of that Gary Glitter **** from Jock Jams.

I will, damnit. Someday.
As for "Modern Guilt", that made me laugh out loud, seriously. In a good way! But I love that it sounds like that, so to each his own.
