Gosh, looking at the episode again, that kid with the big hair that Gaga was walking through the hotel is so annoying

Btw, the think that i find off putting is the aesthetic of this episode. It just feels too theatrical. The hand movements, the delivery of the lines(especially by Gaga), even the murders. When The Countess sliced that girl's throat, i crackled. The shooting of that scene, and they way they portrayed that murder was comical and not at all frightening.
Compare that scene to when Fiona slices Madison's throat and you'll know what i mean.
Horror comes from an authentic and raw place. Most Gaga scenes were way too theatrical for me, that it took away from the horror element. This wasn't the case with ANY past season. Even in the campy Coven. When it was horror, it was HORROR. You could feel it. Not ONE scene of the premiere made me feel like i was watching a horror movie. And given the amount of gore and the disturbing scenes, it shouldn't be that way.
I don't know if you guys can understand what im trying to say.

The Countess slicing the throat of that girl was the best scene of the episode tbh It was great. In order to look more "real" it should've had a different angle (where you are able to see both of them) and it could've felt more real, but not necessarily better. The way the camera was right infront of their faces >>>>>

Yeah, I also liked it.
I found the whole scene to be exciting with fat iris trying to catch up.

I disagree. And there wasn't anything horror about Fiona slicing Madison's throat imo. But everyone has their own opinion and I respect yours.

Well said! I couldn't agree more.
I really enjoyed the first episode and I've now watched in twice, but it defiantly lacks something the other seasons have. I hope the whole season isn't based on shock value, because I need some genuine horror in there.
This might sound silly because nothing about AHS is 'real', but something about the characters in the first four seasons felt so life-like and authentic. Whereas the majority of Hotel characters seem way too theatrical, more like parodies rather than people. Don't get me wrong, the season seems promising so far and I guess it's too early to judge... just something I picked up on.

I'm not saying Fiona slicing Madison's throat was horrifying. But it just felt more real. While on Hotel, it feels a bit staged. Ryan should really leave all the camp stuff for Scream Queens. It works for that show. Not for AHS though. Not when you have produced the masterpiece that is Asylum.
Hotel has a lot of potential to be a great season. But im just not feeling it right now. Im not saying its bad, its far from bad. I just miss the horror element. All seasons(minus the majority of Freakshow) had strong horror elements. Even Coven. The first part of the season served with some real horror ****.
As a horror fanatic, i need my horror fix. Just gore and monster sexy drill *****s and **** like that just aint working.
Imo, Ryan can try all his best, but she can never top Asylum. She created a true MASTERPIECE with that season. A horror mini series CLASSIC imo.
I'm not saying that to make Hotel or any other season look bad, it's just the truth. And its ok, he doesn't have to top it. But i don't want the show to drift away from the most important aspect. the HORROR. Because lets be honest, its called American HORROR story for a reason.
Just my 2 cents.

EXACTLY. This is EXACTLY how i feel. I think a lot of this has to do with the way this season is being filmed. It just feels different. I'm also not really feeling all the settings we have seen so far. But ok, we haven't seen much of the hotel yet, so I'll wait for a few more episodes on that.
I hope the rest of the season delivers.

The complete spectrum of emotions you could read on her face when she was pleading to the junkie to tell her he loved her, I was astonished. I think this is her finest work since Lana.

Just rewatched the episode and I must say that the music in Hotel is already so much better than in previous seasons. It's haunting, tense and beautiful. Let's hope the music is not the only thing they step it up with this season

Even though I loved the episode (it's my favorite premiere) and the characters, I see what you guys are saying and I kinda agree with this.

I don't agree. I find the music in both Asylum and Coven to be much better and much more suited as a horror show.
The iconic La La La song from Coven will always remain the best ,music in relation to the season for me. Its so distinctive an haunting, it fitted PERFECT

True. This season will potentially be great. the material is there, its just a matter of how Ryan develops it.

Cordelia was such a sub-par role for Sarah honestly. She was so basic.
