Yes she is different but I don't think that this new direction for Marina is that much a surprise to those of us who read her blogs and her tweets for the last few years. She obviously is a huge pop fan and she couldn't do another album that straddled the pop/indie line, she needed to either go fully indie or fully pop and its a no brainer why she chose to go pop.
What annoys me is when fans call her a flop or say that her songs are flops because they're not number 1. Or this era is a flop because its not smashing worldwide. I knew as soon as I heard that she was working with Dr Luke that this would happen, people would jump on the bandwagon expecting to follow the rise of another Dr Luke success story.
In the context of her first album she has been much more successful this time around with Primadonna charting in countries all over the world, its a top 50 on US mainstream radio, her biggest selling UK single. Of course I want Marina to keep achieving more and more but you have to have realistic expectations. Things are heading in the right direction.
Right now I couldn't give a **** how EH does in the US because its being released almost cold, no hit song to accompany it. I think her label will try and get Primadonna and HTBAH to be as big a hits as they can in the hope that the singles will sell the album. Any money spent on promoting the album will be a waste.
