Sadly, I don't think so. The avatars that do show up, despite the options in preferences that disables avatars and images, are showing up because they are hosted elsewhere (such as imageshack) and I think there'd need to be a code or something that blocks anything that is loaded in the avatar area, which would be too much work probably.
There are some options as to disabling images in chrome for any site in general though.
http://www.google.com/support/forum/...6a13f39d&hl=en explains the choices, where you can block certain domains (perhaps imageshack if you don't want those off-hosted images at all showing up), but it would affect your complete browsing experience, not just for ATRL.
If you honestly just want the text of a thread, try going to Actions -> Print this Thread from that thread. It actually doesn't print it, unless you continue with file -> print, but rather formats everything on the thread as text-only. Hope this helps!

Yes! I can't help but chime in to recommend using anything other than Internet Explorer; Both are free and so much better!

www.google.com/chrome. I love how Chrome feels but I am way too used to Firefox, so I'd at least highly suggest that.
