I used to adore Christina's singing before I found people that use their voices better. I think Christina's instrument is amazing, very rich voice. However, it's her overuse of melisma with no restraint that kills her package of being a vocalist to me.
I need recent picture of Kelly Clarkson... I miss her
Unfortunately, Kelly is the most talented celebrity on the planet when it comes to disappearing from the world. Her everyday look makes her blend in with non-celebrities. So when she goes out, we never know about it.
Kelly is totally hit or miss. She can sit down and write flawless gems like Because of You, Sober, Irvine, Chivas, Maybe, All I Know, Already Gone, Cry, Catch My Breath, Underneath the Tree etc. But then she can have other songs like Yeah, Einstein, etc. But I don't think it's fair to say she sucks at writing. I could think of more good songs she's written than bad ones.
Very true. Kelly is able to write great songs with great lyrics (WIR original songs, BOY, BTHE, CMB, some of MD songs) but she sometimes fails. I think songs written by her can be easily recognized among other songs on her albums (although Dark Side and Honestly can be written by her too, in my opinion). I think a problem with song writing might be that sometimes sge writes in a too artistic way which means abstract this time. With some of her songs or some parts of them, I have hardly any idea what they are supposed to be about, they're too abtract for me. Examples: SIFOY, BYOH, Impossible, Ready, Yeah, Maybe, Be Still, One Minute, hell I even had this problem with BOY before I read on wiki that it's about her parent' divorce. Then it made sense..

I love that quality about her songs, the abstractness makes it more open to interpretation.
But, although it took some time I figured out what most of the songs you listed means:
Standing in Front of You is like her Give Your Heart A Break, there's someone she's crushing on he's been hurt by love and she wants him to take a chance on her.
Be Still is like the opposite, someone wants her to take a chance with him, and she's contemplating it throughout the song.
I will admit, I still get confused as to what Impossible means. But, I can still relate to it. I just love how abstract her songs are.

Yeah, I can get from some of her songs something like "overall feeling", I think I know what was the main "idea" of the song but I can't at all tell what means this line and that one etc. And then there are songs that I totally don't get like Impossible or Ready. I mean:
Leaping from this cliff in my thoughts
I fly like stones in my heart
...
Fearless
With cape in hand
Conquer what I need to mend
Little girls get so broken
...
I fly like stones
As I break every bone
Come get me
What the hell is this supposed to mean?!? I've been always good in deciphering meanings from poems full of metaphores and abstract stuff but Kelly's writing is too much for me.
Not my fault tbh. I gave the other ones a great opportunity to discuss the meaning of Ready and the discussion could have gone for hours and hours (like a discussion about the meaning of the end of Lost ) and no one made even a little suggestion.
I've always loved Kelly's lyrics. I think they're almost always at least good, but usually I love them. That's part of why I prefer the songs she wrote over the songs others wrote for her. Hers feel more personal, and I just like her style better.
I don't think her writing style is too abstract. It's just enough to make room for interpretation, but it's also always clear about what the general meaning or mood is. The only song that I don't really get is "Ready," but it still makes some sense.
