Yeah it was quite sugarcoated. I guess it would've been less of a happy ending if they didn't sugarcoat it though.
The whole ~suspense~ that is created through the movie by Travers withholding the film rights is fabricated for dramatic effect. Disney had the film rights before they started deliberations over the direction of the film, so I guess that wouldn't have been nearly as interesting.
