For their sophomore release, One Direction are bringing on various collaborators for songwriting and producing.
After Justin Bieber has, essentially, found success with mega teams of collaborators, from Ludacris to Mariah Carey, is bringing on a list of guest appearances now a standard for pop albums? One Direction appears to be taking a similar approach with their upcoming sophomore album. But, unlike the Biebs, the British five-piece are playing it more cautiously. Based on their current list of collaborations, the former X Factor contestants are striving more a more rock sound and aren’t necessarily enlisting a block of A-listers to provide support.
According to Pop Crush, Scottish indie band the View are signed on for songwriting. View singer
Kyle Falconer said
: “The ones I put in for One Direction were the ones that people said were too wimpy for the View. There’s a few of them — we write songs non-stop.”
But while the View may be contributing songs, Florida rock band
Boyce Avenue may have a greater role. Member Daniel Manzano told Perez Hilton
: “We’re meeting up to see what they think of some ideas we’ve got for them. We’ve got a studio right by the beach, so it’s a cool place for bands to come and write with us.”
Ed Sheeran, previously reported, is also on board in a songwriting and production role. About his contributions, he mentioned:
“I don’t really do that a whole lot, I think it’s just because I’m friends with them.”
Others interested in working with the boyband include Justin Bieber, already rumored to be collaborating at one point, and Mika.
