In Season 1, the characters played by Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, and Evan Peters outshone hers and were more important. In Season 2, the characters played by Lily Rabe, Zachary Quinto, and Sarah Paulson were way more important and totally outshone Jessica's character.
The cast is pretty deep. If the writing remains good, one actress leaving the show won't break it.

I agree with the overall point you're trying to make. The show does have a strong cast and if the writing remains top notch, like you said, it should continue to thrive. Jessica isn't the be/end all.
That said, I will really miss Jessica. She's extraordinary in every scene she's in. She
carries those scenes, regardless of her character's importance. Watching the likes of Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett and Francis Conroy either in scenes together or on their own is a gift. I love the fine-tuned theatrics they bring to do the table. So while many are stanning for people like Emma Roberts (sorry, I don't get it), I'm here for the vets who are GIVING IT in every frame. It's gonna be sad to see Jessica go. My only fear is that this show will turn into a CW style show where a bunch of the vets are outnumbered by good looking props who can't act their way out of a paper bag. As long as they keep hiring veterans alongside a nice group of talented rookies, I'll be happy.
