Some you Mariah stans arnt even bothering to see what the question asks. The question isn't who has more respect, talent, more influence, it's whos more iconic.
Then what is more iconic about Britney? The original question is subjective.
And , Mariah Carey basically pioneered the movements for urban pop which goes back to a song on her first album called "Someday". And Britney has done a lot of urban pop.
Hers was a big deal, or at least in my area. People are still playing that album during this holiday season. I meant to quote both of you but I guess I only quoted yours. I'm saying Mariah is not totally out of the game. Her most recent album is still sorta alive, even if it's just because of the holiday season.

Musically, Mariah beats Britney hands down. No-one is going to credit Britney with impacting the sound of music as much as Mariah. But Britney belongs to a different generation where visual reigns over vocal and everything else, and so do we. Therefore it's no surprise if people do think that Britney is a bigger icon in this day and age; yet Mariah has cemented for herself an everlasting position in the canon of mainstream music that Britney can only hope to attain in time.

Well, Destiny's Child has had a lot of impact on today's urban music especially when it comes to the art of hiccuping over beats (No, No, No Pt.2, Bug A Boo, Independent Woman, etc ). You hear a lot of r&b singers riding beats these days. And a lot of people have been influenced by their rhythmic style.
I don't hear to much Spice Girls in music these days.
And by saying the Spice Girls are more bigger worldwide, you are insinuating that DC were locals which was not the case. Destiny's Child had a huge Worldwide fanbase, especially in Europe.
