He's so into music that it makes me SO mad when people don't take him seriously. Bornbrave said it in another thread, he has a GREAT ear for good music and hits and he's also talented and hard-working. He deserves everything. You can tell with the people he's collabing with. Jhene Aiko, Tinashe, Angel Haze, Mike Posner, Purity Ring, Jesse Ware, ALL great and talented and on the verge of exploding into mainstream. He knows how to appreciate good music and doesn't sell out for quick hits.
They see him as a sexy face which he does have and we love it so we can certainly appreciate him for that but he's so much more than eye candy.. In fact for me at least half the sexiness is in his musical prowess and personally I liked his music prowess before his looks. I didn't even think he was that cute at first (although he was a kid then so it would have been creepy for me)
But you know what it doesn't even really make me mad. As I always say it's their loss. Might sound selfish but it makes it easier to go to his concerts with less people appreciating him. Plus he's still making good money/good crowds and as you say he's working with all these artists that he could only dream to work with years ago. Still it is crazy and we know he secretly finds it to be a bit too much and be thought of as a musician first.. I guess they think because he did that cover spread inspired by Mark Wahlberg that's all he's after. I think sometimes he just does stuff that looks attention grabbing to people because he is scared. He said so himself. He thought his career was over. Music is everything to him. It's not about picking up girls or whatever.
I think I said this all to you before idk I know we said a good bit but if I am I guess I'm reiterating your point. This is why I say I'm Dory from Finding Nemo
The Mark Wahlberg inspired shoot came off as a rebirth to me. And it was needed.
Although, some of the comments about the shoot double standards are real. People were saying he's doing too much or whatever they were standard underwear pics like bye.
I agree with you both but I think the Mark Wahlberg shoot wasn't the problem. It's the Jonas Brothers/Disney past unfortunately. New York Times actually wrote a review for Nick's concert yesterday and they said:
"(The Jonas Brothers) very secretly, was one of the better American rock bands of the late 2000s" and that is TEA, because you can see 1D/5SOS getting all the success they got but the Jonas Brothers got nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy but the Disney involved (after they started the band) made them seem like they were created by Disney.
Nick is finally changing that image, all the praise he's been getting this era is incredible. I think he's slowly (or pretty fast may I say) gaining the respect he deserves and I have a feeling this new album will cement this.
Also, like Wicked said, yes I think that shoot was needed, but I'm SO glad he hasn't done anything like that anymore. He needs to focus on music and I'm glad he's doing it. You can tell he really is serious about all of this.

Yeah that's true it was kind of a rebirth too and I mean ikr. Have you seen musicians today? This is Teletubbies compared to what some of them do.
I'll admit it was a bit try hard to me with the way he posed IMO but it wasn't that bad either. It just made me laugh. I wasn't like omg I lost so much respect for him or even this is so disgusting. Comments like that are unnecessary. Like you said "bye don't let the door hit you on the way out"

Yeah I mean what I mean is it was basically both of that. If he had already been a mature artist they probably wouldn't have had a problem but they think it's all he's after because it's like one extreme to other. Many people would be taken aback but still..why actually believe that they were as clean as they appeared on Disney? I have never really changed that much from year to year but even so I understand that most people do esp if they're in the industry.

I didn't know people thought they were started by Disney, though I found out about them through my brother having that MTV Hits channel on and Mandy/Year 3000 playing But yeah, everyone not being able to take him seriously is quite annoying. The acclaim keeps rolling in.
Yeah, he's done a good job not exploiting his manly parts lmao. They'll be enough of that on Kingdom

This is slaying me right now, he needs more features; he's perfect on these Hip-Hop beats:

Yeah, it's actually quite annoying. Of course the media knows they didn't start in Disney but some haters pretend they did just to dismiss their success and talents, but I'm glad Nick could prove everyone he's more than that and start all over. I haven't been so happy with someone success ever like I'm with Nick's.

Yeah and this was basically last year, I remember seeing the "no purity ring anymore" headline like 6 times a day in different media sites and now people have accepted it and are starting to take him seriously

Yeah they thought that (or pretended to think that) because Disney is what got them noticed most likely.. It was how I discovered them. The first time I saw them was on Baby Bottle Pop commercial. I thought Joe and Kevin were cool. I don't think I had any opinion on Nick the first time I saw him. He was just kinda..there you know? But somehow I forgot about them twice. I still don't understand what my mind was doing. Finally when I saw them on Disney back in 07 I thought to look them up so I quickly learned yeah these were the same guys that were artists before Disney. I think had I not stupidly forgotten about them I would have been hardcore sooner.
Right that'll be enough for me on Kingdom.
I'm still into Good Thing...haven't got tired of it yet.
Who would be your dream collaborator?
Kanye, for sure. I really feel like he and I would do something special together. Hopefully I get the chance to work with him some day.
Kanye collab would be amazing, but for some reason I can't even imagine them having a conversation yet alone performing a song together
He was with Kanye at the BRITS and if he can maintain a convo with Jay Z (who dissed him and his bros back in the day in a song) I think the Kanye collab is more possible now that he praised Nick, imo.
I love how talented he is. He's been writing and producing since he was a kid. His talent is huge
Rarely does someone come along, into the industry, and are genuine and very hands-on with their craft. He may end up being one of the underrated ones; but I hope people eventually learn to appreciate his talent and really take notice of the quality of his music. He deserves a long, prospering, solo career.
I always feel the need to reply to everyone. I feel like that Britney stan that does the same

WHY are they on DirecTV?
The show would SLAY on FX.
Yes but it became the biggest DirecTV show ever and it had great ratings so I can't complain for now.

Oh, and Mariah Carey
Jessie needs to be confirmed already. Taylor and the slayage that could be
Ariana NEEDS to happen. Nick was there for her when she was a no one, she needs to pay him now.

This tea
Even if he isn't SUPER succesful, if he manages to stay relevant like now or even a little less, getting hits and selling a couple albums, being able to tour with every album, I think that would be enough for him. He truly loves what he's doing. It would be sad if he wasn't able to do what he loves.
I keep thinking maybe it would be cool if Nick collabed with Britney because I love her but I didn't know if I would like it if it ever happened because maybe it would sound awkward?
