Quote:
Björk is nothing like “normal” female pop stars. Her lyrics are cryptic. Her music is polarizing. Her voice always drips with an uncontained passion that’s usually reserved for soul or rock artists. Her lyrics are cryptic at times. But she has such a knack for the type of melodic pop songwriting that was really popular back in the 1990s that it’s nearly impossible to not love it. She draws from many different musical influences (jazz, industrial, dance) and she manages to pull it off perfectly.
Army of Me – An energetic Nine Inch Nails lite song opens Post. It’s an amazing song. – 10
Hyperballad – A sweet love song. – 7.5
The Modern Things – I always feel left out when she sings in her native language because I can’t understand her, and she does it quite a bit on this song. Nevertheless, it’s good, with the lyrical focus on how technology has been waiting to take over the world for millenniums. – 7
It’s Oh So Quiet – I love how this song switches from virtually nothing to a passionate vocal with a complete live jazz? band in the background. – 10
Enjoy – This song sounds like sexual tension in the worst way possible. Or the best way possible, depending on how you look at it. It’s definitely an album highlight. – 10
You’ve Been Flirting Again – I loved this song the first time I heard it, but the spark didn’t last at all. It kinda brings the energy down in a way that the other slow songs on the album don’t. Like a lot. – 6.5
Isobel – Absolutely hypnotizing. – 8.5
Possibly Maybe – Good, but nothing really stands out for me with this song. – 6.5
I Miss You – I can’t at this song instantly getting me up and dancing. It takes from a variety of musical influences. It sounds free and happy. – 8.5
Cover Me – Not a fan of this song. – 5
Headphones – I love this song, but again, I feel a bit left out when she starts speaking in her native language. I love the ambiance of the whole song. – 9
In my opinion, the grouping of Black people behind that large billboard of a Black man's face represents the ideal oneness of the Black community and the raising of that little boy into the air represents Black people holding each other up and supporting each other as opposed to doing the opposite; especially with the male youth. The most beautiful part of the video.
