I don't think anyone's genuinely expecting them to crack the US per se, just that they'll continue to gain more international attention. Artists on these "ones to, like, totally watch!!!1" lists rarely actually make it huge.
SNSD flopped because the english single was already an existing song and was not handled seriously.
SNSD could have a shot if they made an album like their second japanese album with bops like Animal and as a unit of 5 instead of 9.
BoA flopped because her english album didn't compare to her previous work and the lack of promo.
Her english is much better than when she did her debut english album which could make for a positive turn around.
Asians have a hard time hitting western mainstream success in music so maybe the above wont matter.
