I was expecting PRISM to be a huge pop album, a 80/100 on metacritic, with an opinion to say, and Katy's personality to come through, which were most of the concerns the critics had w TD. So I was actually a bit dissapointed when I heard prism.
Some times the lyrics, even though imaginative, can be so basic. So are most of the hooks, like Birthday, This Moment, International Smile and Choose Your Battles. I mean, they could all sound the same, even the production is not as imaginative and different as it was on TD.
I mean, I understand that Katy's direction is a pop/top hit genre and that she would want every song to be a potential hit single, but that doesn't come through like the TD ones.
If she went for more artistic creation on the album tracks, I think it could have been infinitely better. Even the deluxe tracks, they all sound the ''''same'''. You get what I mean.
From the first 4 songs I heard (Roar, WA, DH and BTGOGod), I thought it would be a really varied album, but I think the album tracks have nothing to say/filler. I mean, songs like Spiritual show her artistic capabilities, but I expected the lyrics/melodies to be more unconvential. They tried to much to fit to that basic radio-formula and it even ended up not even being as good for the radio.
I think By The Grace of God and It Takes Two are AMAZING and I really like This Is How We Do and Double Rainbow. I'm already addicted to WA/DH/LL, but I expected more from the rest of the tracks.
And btw this is not meant to be a drag post, just my opinion on PRISM.
I think if PRISM was an EP w 8 tracks, it would get much better reviews, but anyways we'll wait and see.
