(Obviously it's possible, but let's be real; many of us will naturally lose some lyricism for the sake of being zany.) I LOVE Kill V. Maim for the melodies/vocal performance/music, but the lyrics aren't especially good IMO. And I know the judging is gonna be a mess. Anyway, interesting idea, I just wonder about the timing. I'll have to think long and hard about this one.

Hmmm I slightly see what you mean but at the same time, I don't. The challenge isn't basically to be weird or zany for the sake of it, and I don't think anybody necessarily thinks the Grimes song has good lyrics either - it's just to be used for inspiration. There's been, at least in my opinion, song concepts / stories in entries that are a little typical / standard. Like, though they can be touching, they're pretty basic in that they're all just kind of about some sort of revolving issue and how the person writing the song can't seem to fix it or is struggling. This is really the chance to do something outlandish and unique - it's also a chance to show off your lyricism too (isn't every round?), but more than ever with it being the semi final. You don't have to sacrifice impressing us lyrically with just being weird because that'd be dumb.

Basically like I said above, at least for me I'm looking for something unique - write something that literally nobody else would've thought of, something that isn't comparable and is kind of just it's own entity. It doesn't necessarily have to be weird or confusing in it's narrative, like the challenge says it should still make sense. It just needs to be very distinctive. I'd avoid using typical buzzwords and imagery definitely. I wouldn't really recommend weird words because that makes it sound like it wouldn't make sense if you were just throwing in weird words into a song, but if you can make them still have sense and meaning then go for it. I think alternative phrasing in general would be cool. At least, for me. I can only really talk for myself. Be a little enigmatic
Make sense?
