My Puerto Rican parent is my mother and both her parents were born in Puerto Rico, BUT my great-great grandmother was born in Cuba so she was a biT dark, which is why my grandfather is a tad dark. However, my mother isn't. She's JLO's complexion, for example.
Skin color isn't like mixing paint. It's an interesting concept I learned in freshman biology (the only concept I remember) called polygenic inheritance. I think the way it went was: everybody has like 6 skin color traits/genes/whatever (3 from either parent) and there are like 64 different possible combinations that can from any 3 of either parent's 6 traits. How dark you are depends on how many are dominant, I think.

My mom is SUPER duper light-skinned and my father is Nicki Minaj's color. I'm dark-skinned.
