Yeah, they're pretty few and far between here as well. It's sad. We only have one proper (i.e., exclusively) entertainment retail store left in my city. There used to be three or four. I've kinda always wanted to work in a place like HMV, but the chances of that happening keep going down with every year, nay, MONTH that goes by. Pretty soon there won't be any left.
There are a couple of second-hand record stores downtown, but I don't think I'd ever work in one -- I don't really know my vinyl that well and my taste in music is probably too limited for them, anyway. I feel uncultured just
shopping at those places. The hired help are usually really nice, but they can also be such condescending music elitists sometimes.
The people at my HMV usually just take them (when they like the artist) or recycle them (when they don't). And lots of record stores offer discounts for employees, I'm pretty sure.
a record store would be so much more fun though. I would be able to leak albums for people I don't like
