People never seem to truly get Kanye. Reactions to him are usually a polarized hodgepodge of love, hate, and loving the music but hating the person behind it. Nevertheless, perhaps that's where some of the interest in him lies. His tendency to be misunderstood and then respond in unpredictable fashions leads him to be quite the enigma. Whether he's eating Asian ***** with sweet and sour sauce, or emoting on an entire album devoted to heartbreak, we never know what we can fully expect from him. One of the few things that's consistent about him is the quality of his work. All of his albums are acclaimed in one form or another, fans engage in the perpetual debate of which one is the best, and if he's releasing a new one this year then you better count on it being plastered all over year-end lists. Arguably the best rapper of today, artists would jump at the chance to be invited onto one of his songs. Some rap fans claim the shining moment of one rapper's whole career is the verse she managed to carve out on a song of his. All of that aside, Kanye is also consistently restless. It's as if he feels like he always has something more to prove. Refusing to be backed into a corner, that's exactly what makes being a spectator of his journey so fascinating.
...trash. He shouldn't be on this list either.
Prince is great and all, and he does get swept to the side more often than not, but I just never got his appeal (well, I never got MJs appeal either).
