SonyBMG Tweeted fans asking what we want to hear on the next Britney Spears album.
Yes, you read that right: they actually want a FANS' opinion for once! This can mean several things:
1. They genuinely want to please Britney fans, take our advice and apply it!
2. They've run out of ideas passed Max Martin or
3. Britney was unavailable for comment.
Two out of three ain't bad, right?
Meanwhile, we have MTV so bored with the pop music scene they've delved back into 11-year-old "Baby One More Time" for an extensive and unnecessary re-review.
These days it looks as if fans have more ideas for Britney's upcoming album than her management does. Is this what the ever-so-accessible world in pop music has come down to? Asking fans for a quick answer to crank out a quick album to make a quick buck?
And even if we play along, will we really see results? Or is this just another ploy to trick fans into believing their ideas matter. Prove me wrong otherwise!
Since they want my opinion (not like they had any choice in the matter), I'll say it!
I think SonyBMG is asking the wrong person! I want to hear less from management and more from Britney the artist. They've successfully micromanaged the **** out of her career, so much so, that artists with a creative, independent spirit are catching up and redefining industry standards.
The next album shouldn't focus more on a glitzy theme than the music itself, something "Circus" is terribly guilty of. Where's the substance? Where's the meaning? "Mmm Papi" just didn't cut it for me.
Is this album being rushed because of the conservator's hidden agenda? The faster these albums come out, the more money they're guaranteed through the duration of the conservatorship which, let's face it, can't last forever; if she can put out two albums in two years should she be deemed incompetent enough to remain under a conservatorship? Even Judge Reva Goetz isn't that foolish.
Is Britney at a point in her life when she can closely focus on an album? or have the mandatory court meetings, permanent custody arrangements, the lost sense of freedom through the conservatorship and the stresses of stardom caused Britney to turn a cold shoulder to her work?
Is this something Britney pushed to do? Or was this pushed on her? Has she given up?
No one but Britney can answer that, and sadly, she's yet to have a genuine outreach of support or platform to do so.
So, to answer your question SonyBMG, I want an album that Britney is passionate about, co-wrote on and actively contributed to. An album that fans can relate to, party to, cry to, dance to and live through.
That, or we can look forward to MTV's popology on "Oops...! I Did It Again."

ITZ era there was a poll for next single, I think The Hook Up won the poll but Toxic was next single instead (and Toxic wasn't even in 2nd or 3rd place...)
Last year sometime there was another poll for next single, IUSA won and Unusual You was close 2nd iirc, but instead of Amy as 3rd single and UY as 4th like the fans wanted, they used Radar

Yes, because "The Hook Up" would've saved her career and won her a Grammy? Trust me, I love that song but "Toxic" was great. And it was a song Britney pushed for, and that we all love.

That's what fans voted for, lol
It seemed like Toxic wasn't one of the more popular songs on the album when it first came out (like it is now). It was more of a grower. That's what I remember from old message boards back then anyway. THU was just more instantly popular amongst the fans than Toxic was. But yeah, Toxic was definitely the right choice as single lol

Yes, I remember people not loving it instantly. But ultimately, I don't think "THU" would have faired well on the charts.

"The Hook Up" winning over "Toxic".
She should have released:
1st Me Against The Music
2nd Toxic
3rd Showdown
4th (I Got That) Boom Boom
5th Everytime
"In The Zone" era was so robbed singles-wise.

3/5 were singles, from your choices. "Boom Boom" was a planned single until the knee injury. It was going after "Outrageous". "Showdown" is excellent, but as a single...

I meant it was robbed because it had only 3 singles, since "Outrageous" was scrapped after the injury.
"The Hook Up" maybe instead.

Only the music video was scrapped, it was still sent to radio in July of that year. It had 4 full singles, though.

A single without the music video isn't a real single. :/

Not true. Plenty of singles don't have music videos. Then there are radio singles, digital singles, etc. "Outrageous" was sent to radio almost 2 months after the injury. It also got an official release in Japan. They couldn't help the video incident.

Then "In The Zone" had six singles?
"Breathe On Me" was released to radio.
"Boom Boom" was released to clubs.
And "Radar" was the 4th single from "Blackout" since it had a radio release, according to that.
For Britney, a single without a video isn't a single.

In The Zone had four official singles. "Boom Boom" was never released, but got substantial airplay from radio, and that's why it was going to be a single. "Breathe on Me" was a radio/club single as well, but wasn't notable. Plenty of album cuts have remixes released specifically for the clubs. "Radar" had a radio release date in 2008, but was cancelled before the adds date came.
"Outrageous" had official CD singles sent out, and a planned music video. Plus, they were contracted to release it. Unfortunately, the injury occurred so the VIDEO was scrapped. They still pushed it to radio and Japan as a single, but it didn't fare well without the video to promote it. The single was never cancelled after the video fell through. Jive still released it as a single in July 2004, after she injured herself in early June 2004.
Your "theory" would work, if it were cancelled and no video was never planned.

I wish the label updated the sales figure. I'm sure she's already at 130 million from singles, albums and videos combined.
