My sister's in med school and she was posted to University of Pretoria for like a 3-month internship/electives to learn about tropical diseases or sth, so we went to visit.
Its so nice! We managed to go to Cape Town, Jozi, Sandton, Pretoria + Port Elizabeth, in a little over a week.

That's not a goal of mines because I am who I am. I tend not to care too much what a bunch of racist and culturally insensitive whites think about me. As those thoughts and generalizations are reflections of themselves and not me as I have learned the hard way. There is really nothing I can do about it because those same whites are still going to refer to me as the n word or make ignorant statements about me. You need way more than a week to go to SA. When I went I was there for 3 weeks and that still wasn't enough time. Cape Town is so amazing; however, I feel like if you really want an African experience you need to step outside of SA.

I think joburg is too crowded and violent but it's really developed for an African city.

With my experience the people weren't the nicest. Generally they'll treat whites like royalty but see other Africans as rivals. My uncle owned an electronics shop there and they'd throw stones and hurl insults. Apparently foreigners were coming in and stealing their land and jobs. My uncle eventually had to close down his shop and then we relocated to Kenya.

We would've stayed for longer but my father had other commitments back here, so it was a bit rushed. I loved Sandton most, its like a mini-LA. CT was beautiful. Pretoria was so ugly and underwhelming. Jo'Burg's like a mini-NYC.
Did y'all go to Kruger Nat.Park when you were there? So cool. There was also this crazy restaurant called The Carnivore w/all sorts of game meat ( i had croc meat!) but apparently the one in Nairobi, Kenya is miles better, or so they said.

There is also this restaurant kitengella where they let u eat ostrich meat. Never tried eating crocodile or ostrich tho.

And yes its amazing how Africa is kinda developed yet western media continue to propagate this ugly picture of a starving, disease ridden continent then u come here and it's a completely different scenario. We were joking the other day with friends how they kept showing the same piano ribbed malnourished African when reporting on anything Africa.
