I don't get why people hate Born This Way so much, yes it was different from TFM but that doesn't mean it was worse, people have to remember that TFM was an 8 track album while BTW had 17 if it had had 8 tracks as well I bet people would be calling it the album of the decade and whatnot, BTW had a couple of filler songs (FOHL, Bad Kids, The Queen) but those filler songs are still better than some singles the other pop girls are releasing...
It annoys me that if Gaga had just waited out till the Sunday to release Born This Way to iTunes, it'd probably have went #1 in the UK.
It WOULD have gone #1. The first week of BTW outsold the first week of SLY, even with the Brits performance.
What pisses me off so much about that is not the lost #1, but that it set the wrong tone for the entire era here. It looked like Gaga was over and that it was all about Adele. Radios bailed on supporting her and it made people genuinely feel she was flopping. I mean...talk about easily avoidable mistakes...
TEOG did strongly after BTW though, and the album sold roughly 1m copies, followed by huge tour dates.
I mean, regardless of how BTW did, Y&I or something wouldve never been big in the UK when it was picked as a single.
We all know it's perception over reality with Gaga, though. She's easily the most successful pop girl when you look at the numbers, but unless she has in your face success like #1's...it's another story.

I know. I completely agree. (I think we talk on GGD and have talked about this.)
I just mean that the era eventually shifted towards the US anyway, and whether it was during BTW or after TEOG, the UK was gonna lose traction with the upcoming single choice. (Y&I)

(We do )
I agree. Even best case scenario with single order/release, BTW would have only really seen maybe 3 UK hits (BTW, TEOG and possibly Scheisse or Hair). Still. The release of BTW and preventing that #1 was frustrating.
