MBABANE - Local gospel artists and pastors have supported the decision by South African churches to prevent US star Lady Gaga from performing in that country.
The locals feel that the many reports that they have heard about the artist are not good especially for young people, most of whom are known to be her biggest supporters.
Lady Gaga, who is claimed to have once performed a satanic ritual in a London hotel room, is set to perform two stadium shows in South Africa and scheduled to be in Johannesburg on November 30 at the FNB Stadium and in Cape Town on December 3 at the Cape Town Stadium.
South African newspapers reported last week that the churches are currently fasting and in prayer and have promised that they will act to prevent the controversial pop star from entering the neighbouring country.
The newspapers reported that the churches requested South African politicians to use the same power they used to block Chinese anti-government spiritualist the Dalai Lama from entering the country.
Locals normally drive to the neigh-bouring country to watch concerts where there are performances by US stars such as Lil Wayne and Drake.
This is not the first time the pop star has been slammed by a prominent group, and has also faced allegations that she is a satanist.
During her tour to the Philippines in May, a group of Christian youth’s protested against Lady Gaga’s Born This Way tour, saying the pop star’s music mocks Jesus Christ and God.
Below is what local gospel musicians and pastors had to say:
Mduduzi Simelane (Emagawugawu lead singer): "I know her as I see her in the newspapers. I trust the South African churches and believe that they cannot take such a decision out of nowhere. There is definitely something they see in her that they feel is not right. We have heard that she wears meat which is shocking. It’s not for us to judge but if my own child was to come to me and request to go watch that show it would be big no from me."
Bakhe Dlamini (Pastor and gospel musician): "First of all, I wouldn’t say that she is satanist like it has been alleged because I do not have proof which is why to say she shouldn’t perform in South Africa is a bit improper. Every artist has a right to perform anywhere. But because of the many reports about her wearing meat and others, I do support the South African churches. I would be very cautious if my child was to tell me that she was going to attend that show."
Reverend Grace Masilela (Nazarene Church): "Lady Gaga is just possessed and would pollute our children so I support the South African churches who feel that she should not perform in their country. Because she is famous, our children definitely look at the things she does and emulate her."
Pastor Bheki Thwala (Sword and Spirit): "I do not even allow my children to watch her on television! For me it’s a good decision by the South African churches especially because
she is one person who has come out open about her beliefs in demons. I have read many of her articles and its clear that she doesn’t follow God’s way so you cannot open your gates for such a person as I believe that whatever she sings will definitely be transferred to the people that listen to the music. Responsible pastors who know what God sent them for will definitely take such a decision."
Reverend Nicholas Nyawo (Evange-lical Church): "I have seen the artist in the papers but I cannot be in a position to say if I support the decision by the South African churches or not because I am not well informed of her morals and beliefs. So basically I do not have much information about her. However, I wouldn’t allow my child to go to that show because under normal circum-stances I want my children to attend social events that will influence them in a positive way only."
