In Japan you have to be an established artist in order to release a dance track (see Namie or Kumi).
BoA could have pulled it off a couple of years ago when she was relevant but now she has to keep releasing songs that appeal to the general Japanese public.

I wish she'd take a page from Meisa Kuroki's book though.
Despite flopping over and over again Meisa never resorted to some sappy ballad/mid-tempo and eventually got her first hit with "LOL!".

Exactly though I think Kana is established enough now to release a dance track as an a-side. It would probably still sell well.

And even then sometimes a hit isnt guaranteed. I will never get over the fact TABOO and But didnt become two of her biggest hits like they deserved to be even if they were successful.

They were still successful though. If someone like Miliyah Kato or BENI released them they would flop out the gate.

That's just how Japan is.
I still can't get over "NEW LOOK" being the most successful song from Namie's 60s70s80s single when "WHAT A FEELING" was such an epic masterpiece

I loved "NEW LOOK". It's such a weird song at first listen though lol.

"WHAT A FEELING" was really good too though and I love how she sampled the song from Flashdance.

Namie's "WILD" did surprisingly well both digitally and physically but that was probably because she still had the 'BEST FICTION' momentum going.

Yeah. I'm really curious to see how Namie's and Kumi's next albums will do. I'm sure Namie will do well but with a 100-200k decline from P<F. If Ayu's Love songs turns out to be a bomb I will be a bit worried for Kumi lol. Hopefully Ayu at least passes the 250k mark total.
