The problem is most HG's have been recruited rather than found via videos and open calls. Hopefully Grodner really is out and we go back to basics.

I'm caucasian and have a big personality. Not big as in loud like GM but I'm bubbly, sarcastic and witty. I get along with mostly everyone and people always describe me as funny. I'm not some kind of macho masculine gay, but I'm not a z-snapping queen by any means either.

The open call I went to sucked tbh. There were really bad queeny gays trying way too hard to be outrageous to catch attention but they just made fools of themselves. And then others were being too stupid or flakey to even answer a question. I really thought I stood out in mine based on my answers and group interaction but apparently that wasn't enough.

Try out anyway! Everyone is different no matter how similar they are. It depends on the group you have and which production assistant you get, etc. A lot of it is sheer luck. I'll definitely try again.

The people running the open call were really young. They were all pretty young looking (30 and under) and don't have anything to do with the show. I think they're told what types of people to look for and if certain people stand out they just send their info along to someone else who will call them back. As far as I know there are no real casting directors anywhere near the open calls.
